PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Fedor Mazepin (ranked 2762 p4p, 1701 weight class) and Theros Ironfeld (ranked 334 p4p, 229 weight class). Mazepin's ring entrance music is that housewives' favourite, boom. Both fighters look pumped up here. Let's hope this is a good fight!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 9 - 8 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Theros Ironfeld!
The judges for this bout are Aafke Stam, Saam Ante and Patrick Alders.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Ironfeld throws a right hand that Mazepin ducks under and follows up with a left that Mazepin also avoids with ease.
A looping hook to the body misses from Ironfeld. Mazepin does a little dance to reset his feet.
Mazepin went nuts there looking for a big combo counter but none of the flurry connected.
Ironfeld throws a body shot but no joy.
Mazepin appears to be looking for a big counter.
Ironfeld throws out a token jab with nothing on it.
Ironfeld stuffs the takedown.
Ironfeld misses with a left hand
and Mazepin counters with a series of strikes. Ironfeld will be more careful next time no doubt.
Ironfeld fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Mazepin manages to avoid it.
Mazepin shoots in for a takedown but Ironfeld shows good takedown defense.

The pace slowing considerably in the clinch, as Ironfeld takes a break from that fighting nonsense to think about the finer things in life.
An uppercut on the inside fails to land for Ironfeld.
Mazepin drops down looking for an ankle pick but Ironfeld pulls his leg out and moves away.

The pace really dropping off here, momentarily.

Mazepin has Ironfeld pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Ironfeld manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing.
Mazepin goes for a takedown attempt but Ironfeld pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.

Horrible takedown attempt by Mazepin or perhaps it was just good defense by Ironfeld, which made it look bad.

and Mazepin decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Ironfeld's guard.

Mazepin thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Mazepin throws an elbow that misses. Ironfeld uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Mazepin's guard. Nice move by Ironfeld!

Ironfeld is working Mazepin over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes.

Mazepin seems keen to control rather than go for a submission, at least for now.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Mazepin has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Ironfeld can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Mazepin has momentary wrist control but Ironfeld slips an elbow through the middle.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.

Mazepin is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Ironfeld is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Ironfeld has escaped and now he's on top!

Ironfeld is taking a breather. Mazepin says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.
Ironfeld is continuing to stall.
Mazepin on the receiving end of some nice ground and pound.
Mazepin is trying to control but can't.
