PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Nic Caswell (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Rohelio Ramon (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). On his way into the cage it seems that Nic Caswell has been attacked by a crazed fan! It looks like it might have been the just bleed guy! Luckily Nic Caswell seems to be OK! I thought that lunatic was in prison!?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Nic Caswell!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Rohelio Ramon!
The judges for this bout are Stewart Dunkirk, Cecil Peabody and Alan Glass.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Caswell throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Ramon.
Ramon avoids a punch combination nicely.
Caswell throws a shot from downtown. Ramon moves away and avoids it.
A combination from Caswell does no damage.
Caswell throws a right and a left that both miss.
No joy there for Ramon, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Caswell swings wildly with a couple of big hooks

and Ramon counters with a single leg into guard. Caswell didn't expect that.
Caswell tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Caswell being controlled here, momentarily.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Caswell is on top in guard.
Caswell tries to stand but Ramon is controlling from the bottom.

Caswell drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Ramon manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Caswell has Ramon in his guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Ramon is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.
Ramon looks gassed!

Ramon prevents Caswell from getting back to his feet.
Caswell throws a couple of weedy looking strikes off his back.
Ramon wants to pass the guard but Caswell is keeping the position.
Caswell looking to hit a scissor sweep but Ramon is one step ahead there.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.

Caswell has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Ramon can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
Caswell throws a left and a right that both miss

and Ramon counters with a single leg into guard. Caswell didn't expect that.
Caswell looking for a sweep. Not yet Caswell, not yet.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Caswell working away from the bottom but not quite defensive enough there because Ramon has passed into half guard!
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Caswell manages to get to full guard.
Ramon won't allow Caswell to sweep him here.
Caswell manages to land a sweep and now he's in mount on top!

Caswell is landing with some decent strikes but Ramon is trying to advance his position so the referee is letting the fight continue.

Caswell lands a couple of nice shots there from mount.

Ramon gets back to half guard.

Caswell seems to be looking for submissions.
Ramon is trying to stand up here but Caswell is controlling him well.
Caswell wants to stand but Ramon has hold of a leg and an arm, so he's trapped for now.
Ramon tries to roll over but Caswell keeps him under control.
Caswell lands a big shot. The thud that echoes around the arena is like music to the fans' ears.
Caswell works his way into full mount!

Caswell wants to get back to his feet but Ramon is holding on tight.
Caswell throws some wild stikes that Ramon manages to avoid easily.
Ramon slips a leg in and gets back to half guard.

Caswell stands up out of the half guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Rohelio Ramon dominated that round.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!


Caswell fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Caswell misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.

Ramon fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Caswell sprawls well initially but Ramon persists and gets the takedown into half guard.

Ramon seems to be looking for submissions.
Caswell is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Caswell flails away from the bottom but he's not doing any damage.
Caswell tries to get to full guard but Ramon has control of the leg.
Caswell tries to kick Ramon off but Ramon keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.

Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Ramon is dominating on the ground here - he's now on his opponent's back, looking to sink in the hooks. Caswell is in real trouble.

Caswell is trying to get back to his feet but he's not managed it yet.

Caswell turns into Ramon and is now in his guard.

Caswell trying to control the position from guard on top but Ramon is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Caswell avoids a guillotine attempt easily.

Ramon had isolated an arm as going for an omaplata. Caswell is defending the submission well but is in a very vulnerable position. Ramon Is leaning forward trying to finish the omaplata but decides to abandon it, and take Caswell's back instead.
Caswell has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Ramon controlling well, preventing Caswell from escaping the position.
The referee is taking a good look at Caswell as he is on the wrong end of some big shots from Ramon!
Watch the back of the head! Comes the shout from the referee towards Ramon.
Caswell is defending well here and trying to improve his position.

Ramon is staying calm and holding on to the back position, whilst working on a rear naked choke. Caswell is defending well though. Ramon let's go of the attempt for now.

Caswell manages to reverse the position and now he's in Ramon's guard. Nice work there by Caswell.

Caswell decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Ramon, up you get!

Caswell is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Caswell has an omoplata and is looking to use it perhaps as a submission or perhaps to transition. Ramon is in a bit of discomfort here, but he's managed to free himself and has dived into side control! That didn't work out too well for Caswell.

Ramon is working for a kimura but Caswell is defending it quite comfortably.
Caswell is trying to stand up here but Ramon is controlling him well.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Caswell manages to get to full guard.

Caswell has his foot on Ramon's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Ramon works his way back into a safe position though.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Rohelio Ramon showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. Let's get this one finished - here comes the final round!


Caswell throws a jab, cross combination which is slipped

and Ramon counters by moving into the clinch.
Ramon tries to land knees in the clinch but Caswell avoids the damage to the body.
Ramon scores a nice knee to the body.

Caswell moves into range and throws a lovely three punch combination.
Caswell shoots in but doesn't get the takedown

Caswell wants to push off and get back to the center of the mat but Ramon has him pressed against the cage.

Ramon jumps guard.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Ramon has a closed guard, preventing Caswell from standing up.
Caswell pushes down on Ramon's leg and manages to get into half guard.
Ramon wants to get back to full guard.

Caswell missing with some ground and pound from the half guard.
Caswell is trying to get back to his feet now but his leg is trapped.

Caswell is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Ramon is just riding it out for now. Caswell eventually gives up the hold.
Caswell misses with a head shot. Ramon uses the momentum to regain guard.
Caswell is looking to stand up but Ramon won't let him.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Caswell postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Rohelio Ramon has got the better of the ground game so far.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fight is doing enough on the ground.
Caswell falls off balance throwing a combination

and Ramon counters by clinching up.

Caswell successfully pulls guard.

Caswell looks to be working for a triangle here. Oh, it looks like he might have it! Ramon has picked Caswell up and slammed him! Caswell can't keep hold of the triangle and Ramon manages to pass to side control!

Caswell wants to stand but Ramon is controlling the position.

Caswell is looking to sinch up a gullotine here but Ramon pulls his head out easily.

Ramon moves into range and clinches up with Caswell.
Caswell on the defensive, avoiding the knees to the body.
Ramon looking to throw knees to the head but Caswell is blocking nicely.
Caswell is trying to break free.
Nic Caswell has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

Rohelio Ramon comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I've got Ramon winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
