Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the welterweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of
6 - 6 - 0, fighting out of New York, Mark Selwoods!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of
3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Vic Bartone!
The judges for this bout are Joseph Jones, David Schapiro and Jonathan Paton.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Selwoods scores with a nice looking left hook and follows it up with an uppercut!
Selwoods paws at his opponent with the jab and then lunges in with a straight, right on the button.
The fighters circling - Bartone throws out the jab but it was never going to land.
Bartone falls off balance throwing a combination
and Selwoods makes him pay by landing a nice hook to the body before moving out of range.
Nice defenses there by Selwoods.
Bartone swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Selwoods staying out of range there.
Selwoods closes the distance and clinches up with Bartone, looking for a takedown. Selwoods pushes Bartone against the cage but Bartone circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Bartone shoots in but doesn't get the takedown
and Selwoods counters with a three punch combo that has Bartone backing up. Bartone nods at Selwoods to acknowledge the strikes.
Bartone looks gassed!
Bartone tries to clinch but Selwoods is having none of it.
Selwoods fails to land the takedown.
Selwoods closes the distance and clinches.
Selwoods working some nice short punches in the clinch.
Bartone drops to a knee looking for a takedown but Selwoods gets the underhooks and prevents it.
Bartone wants to strike at distance but he can't break free of the clinch.
Selwoods throws a blind hook that connects with the side of Bartones head.
Bartone on the defensive, avoiding the knees to the body.
That's one minute gone in the round.
Selwoods has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Bartone uses from the top position.
Selwoods working for a triangle but Bartone defends it easily.
Bartone is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.
Selwoods has his foot on Bartone's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Bartone works his way back into a safe position though.
Selwoods looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
Selwoods is working for submissions here. He's thrown up his legs looking for a tringle but Bartone frees his head nicely. Oh but Selwoods has switched to an armbar! Bartone is tapping furiously! Lovely submission there!
