PBP Commentary |
Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Bob Probert (ranked 1206 p4p, 2865 weight class) and Karsten Koererlaerer (ranked 125 p4p, 271 weight class). Probert comes to the cage accompanied by DNA. Well, the cameraman is lingering on a pretty young lady for a bit too long there. Keep your eyes on the prize buddy or you'll miss the fighter intros!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of 12 - 6 - 1, fighting out of Las Vegas, Bob Probert! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of 13 - 10 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Karsten Koererlaerer! The judges for this bout are Saam Ante, Paulsen Ambrosius and Albert Achterberg.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Probert misses with a straight left. Koererlaerer closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Probert to the mat! Probert manages to get full guard. In the pre-fight buildup videos we saw Koererlaerer working his ground and pound in the gym. He isn't landing a great percentage of his ground strikes so far though. Probert working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Koererlaerer. Koererlaerer is looking to work some ground and pound but Probert has wrist control. Koererlaerer loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Koererlaerer prevents Probert from getting back to his feet. Probert is avoiding any damage by keeping wrist control. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Koererlaerer with a flurry of punches that miss. The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet. Koererlaerer chips away with some ground and pound. Koererlaerer trying to pass the guard. He's being very persistent here but Probert manages to land a sweep and now he's on top!
That's one minute gone in the round. Probert looking to control the position here, rather than advance. Probert continues to stall. Probert decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Koererlaerer, up you get! Koererlaerer shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Probert defends it nicely. Probert lands a leg kick. The shin dug right into the meat of the thigh. Koererlaerer throws a combination. Probert tries to block but a couple of punches get through.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Probert scores with a big left there. The judges will like that one. Koererlaerer connects with a body shot that sends Probert's belly button to the back. We've been told by Probert's head coaches at The Rubber Guard Emporium that he's been working on his takedown defense in preparation for this fight. Koererlaerer shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Probert tries to kick Koererlaerer off but Koererlaerer keeps his base steady and stays in half guard. Koererlaerer wants to lay and pray for a moment but Probert keeps working. Koererlaerer is working for a submission of some sort.
Probert pushes Koererlaerer off looking to stand but Koererlaerer dives back in and keeps control.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Koererlaerer not throwing his punches with enough precision this time. Koererlaerer seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Probert does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back. Probert is trying is best to control the position here. Koererlaerer is looking to stall here but Probert recovers full guard. Koererlaerer is looking to work some ground and pound but Probert has wrist control. Koererlaerer trying to control the position from guard on top but Probert is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Koererlaerer drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Probert manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Koererlaerer has Probert in his guard. Probert controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Probert stands up from guard. Let's bang! Koererlaerer keeping his hands up high there, blocking the jab from Probert. Koererlaerer fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Probert throwing a counter right hand but Koererlaerer manages to avoid it. Koererlaerer shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Probert but Probert pushes him off and we're back to square one. The crowd thankful this round is nearly over. Probert closes the distance and clinches. Probert leaning against his opponent.
Koererlaerer wants a takedown.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.
That was a close round but I would say that Bob Probert will probably get the nod. That's time! Probert's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. Koererlaerer shoots and misses and Probert counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw. Probert fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Koererlaerer manages to avoid it. Koererlaerer gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily and Probert counters with a lovely straight right hand! Probert takes a swing at Koererlaerer's ribcage but misses. Koererlaerer doesn't succeed with the takedown and Probert counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.
Koererlaerer is rocked! Bob Probert has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Karsten Koererlaerer. Probert flashes Koererlaerer a smile before throwing a beast of a right hand, straight down the pipe. Koererlaerer's eyes follow the hand right onto his nose, taking in it's full glory... and then darkness. Koererlaerer crumples to the floor! He's out cold! Probert punches the air and yells at the top of his lungs - yeeeeeeeeeeah!!!! This one is all over!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:34 of round 2, we have a winner by way of KO (Punch). Bob Probert! Bob Probert decided to go for the less than humble approach in his post fight interview, telling everyone how he is going to conquer the world. The crowd seemed to like it when really that sort of approach could have gone either way.
