PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Dawindi Buktot (ranked 24656 p4p, 24577 weight class) and Kulata Bitok (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Kulata Bitok has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 11 - 12 - 1, fighting out of Las Vegas, Dawindi Buktot!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 8 - 16 - 1, fighting out of Las Vegas, Kulata Bitok!
The judges for this bout are Alan Glass, Cecil Peabody and Chris Downing.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
We've got one fighter who appears to only be looking to counter and the other not looking particularly aggressive either, so we could be in for a dull fight.
Bitok shoots in for a double leg but Buktot sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
And Buktot counters with a quick kick to the body but Bitok blocks it.

Buktot closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Bitok did well to prevent Buktot getting side control.
Bitok is positioning himself well to prevent Buktot advancing to mount.
Buktot slows the pace down in half guard.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Bitok is trying to get back to full guard.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Buktot in particular looking to stall.
Bitok keeping hold of Buktot's head, controlling as best he can.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Buktot prevents Bitok from improving his position.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.

Buktot looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Bitok is fending him off so far but Buktot persists. Nope, Bitok circles away and we're back to standing.
Buktot fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Bitok avoids it really well and circles away.
And Bitok responds with a good body kick, but Buktot manages to step out the way in time.

Bitok's corner is telling him to maintain position.
Bitok postures up.
Bitok is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Bitok passes into half guard under a barage of strikes.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Kulata Bitok will probably get the nod.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.

Buktot tries for a takedown but Bitok sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
Bitok is trying to counter with his kicks.
Bitok fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Buktot avoids it really well and circles away.
Buktot throws a quick counter kick to the body but Bitok avoids it.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Buktot shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Buktot was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!

Bitok is trying to avoid being dragged into an even worse position than he's already in but Buktot is staying active.
Buktot just content to control the position.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Bitok regains half guard.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.
Bitok is trying to control but can't.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up.
Buktot will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
Bitok steps in looking to counter with the mid kick but it doesn't connect.

and Buktot counters with a nice body kick.

Buktot keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
Buktot quickly followed up with a counter body kick but doesn't connect.
Dawindi Buktot has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Kulata Bitok.
Bitok throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Buktot's waist but Buktot gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Bitok off to one side.
Nice sprawl there from Buktot as Bitok shoots in.
Both fighters are looking to counter, which isn't making for the most exciting fight in the world.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

Bitok gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.
Buktot controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.
Bitok is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Buktot is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Dawindi Buktot dominated that second round.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. This is the final round!


Buktot shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.
Bitok keeping moving, preventing Buktot from controlling successfully.
Dawindi Buktot overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Bitok is doing well to control the posture of his opponent and prevent any damage.

Buktot is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.

Bitok is trying hard to land a takedown here. Buktot sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.
Buktot half committed to a counter leg kick.
Bitok dives in and grabs Buktot's left leg, looking for a takedown. Buktot pushes down on Bitok's head and hops out.

Bitok closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
Buktot is looking for a sweep.

Bitok creates some space and throws a big elbow, but Buktot sees it coming and moves his head just enough to avoid the strike.

A lull in the action here as Bitok stalls from top position.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Bitok stands up.
Buktot takes a nasty kick to the mid section... That should keep him thinking. Does he try and block and risk a head kick landing?

And that's the end of the fight!
Kulata Bitok comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Bitok has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
