PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Taram Douglass (ranked 3911 p4p, 3933 weight class) and Zane Takala (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Taram Douglass!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Zane Takala!
The judges for this bout are Lou da Vinci, Jonathan Paton and Franklyn Lucas.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Douglass darts in and clinches Takala up against the cage.

Takala breaks the clinch.

Douglass drives through with a takedown into guard.
Douglass tries to free his leg and advance position but Takala is retaining full guard.
Douglass advances position into side control!
Douglass throwing shots but missing, from side control.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Takala avoids any damage from the ground and pound of Douglass.
The referee tells the fighters to keep busy.

Douglass is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Takala knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Douglass tries for a kimura but Takala is defending well.
Douglass remains in side control and seems content to stay there. It's a versatile position from which he can work both strikes and submissions, whilst maintaining that control, so maybe he'll sit here for a while.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.

Douglass is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Takala knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.

Douglass decides to stand back up. Douglass steps back and let's Takala get back to his feet.

Takala stuns Douglass with a nice body shot, before stepping back out of range.

Takala gets caught napping as Douglass dives in and scores a takedown. Takala manages to retain guard.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Douglass accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

Takala misses with a few strikes there.
Douglass looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
Zane Takala seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Douglass drops his hands and takes a jab to the jaw for his troubles.

Takala avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
Takala looking to sit in guard and control but Douglass gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Douglass thows a huge punch but Takala dodges it nicely.

Douglass has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.

The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. Let's get this one finished - here comes the final round!

Zane Takala has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Douglass is looking to clinch.
Takala lands with a cross to side of his opponent's head.
Takala stooping low to avoid any incoming strikes and then lunges in with an uppercut come cross that lands flush.

Takala gets caught flat footed, as Douglass shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.
Douglass looking to control the position here, rather than advance.
Douglass throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Takala works some decent striking defense from the bottom.

Douglass stands and throws Takala's legs to the side, diving into side control.

Douglass has had enough of the ground for now and decides to stand.

Douglass drives through and clinches with Takala against the cage.

Takala trying to control the position but instead, Douglass has worked for underhooks and has pushed Takala into the cage.
Douglass tries a knee to the head but Takala blocks it.
An uppercut on the inside fails to land for Takala.

Douglass escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Douglass fails with a takedown attempt from distance.

Douglass closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Takala to the mat! Takala manages to get full guard.
Douglass slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.

Douglass decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Takala, up you get!

and Takala counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.

Douglass gets cracked there but stands up to it.
Douglass pivots, looking for a leg kick but Takala is out of range and Douglass settles back down.

Takala really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Douglass. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Douglass is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Takala defends it well.

Douglass thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Takala's head.

Well I reckon that's a shut out for Douglass, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
