This TWGC bout is 1 fifteen minute round in the super heavyweight division. Introducing today's competitors. In the red corner, competing out of Montreal, with a TWGC record of 0 wins and 0 losses; Youta Himura! And in the blue corner, fighting out of New York, with a TWGC record of 0 wins and 0 losses; Roman Kersikov! The judges for this bout are Yuuki Gou, Tatsuya Matsuyama and Ren Mimura.
Let's get this grappling contest under way! Who will be victorious? Himura defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Kersikov. Himura tries to close the distance and clinch but Kersikov swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away. Kersikov looks for a takedown but Himura sprawls well. Himura rushes Kersikov and presses him up against the ropes. Himura has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Kersikov uses from the top position. Himura controlling Kersikov's posture. Kersikov is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position. Kersikov wants to control from the top but Himura keeps moving. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Himura wants to sweep but no luck. The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring.
That's one minute gone in the round. Kersikov trying to control but Himura is working from the bottom. Himura wants to sweep but no luck. Kersikov wants to control from the top but Himura keeps moving. In the pre-fight buildup videos we saw Kersikov working his ground and pound in the gym. He isn't landing a great percentage of his ground strikes so far though. Himura is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle. Kersikov drops back for a leg here. A bit of a high risk move... He's looking for a kneebar by the looks of things. Now both of them are looking for submissions. Kersikov seems to have locked his on tight now - Himura screams in pain and taps out furiously! It certainly was a high risk move but it's paid off for Kersikov, as he picks up the win!
