CWC 353 PBP Commentary |
This TWGC bout is 1 fifteen minute round in the lightweight division. Introducing today's competitors. In the red corner, competing out of New York, with a TWGC record of 15 wins and 7 losses; Dreynos Elvul! And in the blue corner, fighting out of Hilo, with a TWGC record of 34 wins and 31 losses; Bart Cubbedge ! The judges for this bout are Micheangelo Fripello, Roger Salmon and Chris Saunders.
The official calls the fighters to the middle and the contest is under way. Elvul closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Cubbedge did well to prevent Elvul getting side control. Score +2 for takedown into guard / half guard: Elvul (2) vs (0) Cubbedge Elvul is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there. Elvul is taking a breather. Cubbedge says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something. Cubbedge is looking to improve his position.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Elvul seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.
That's one minute gone in the round. Elvul is trying to advance to mount but he's lost his balance and Cubbedge reverses the position - he's now on top in Elvul's guard. Score +2 for sweep to guard / half guard: Elvul (2) vs (2) Cubbedge Cubbedge stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Elvul swivels though and keeps the full guard. Cubbedge sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Elvul's guard.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Elvul wants to control but Cubbedge is keeping busy and won't allow it. Elvul is not content to let Cubbedge control the position. The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring. Elvul is trying to control but can't.

Cubbedge is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Elvul is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Elvul has escaped and now he's on top! Elvul trying to control but Cubbedge is working from the bottom. Cubbedge pulls Elvul in to control the position. Elvul pushes down on Cubbedge 's leg and manages to get into half guard. Cubbedge tries to get to full guard but Elvul has control of the leg.
That's five minutes gone in the round. The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult. Cubbedge is still trying to improve position. The referee calls for the fighters to work.

Elvul moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard. Cubbedge has been taking part in the yoga sessions down at Steel Penn Training Den. Presumably he's going to look for a slick submission... Or maybe he's looking to avoid one.
That's nine minutes gone in the round. A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as Elvul holds on and takes a little breather. Cubbedge stopping the sweep attempt from Elvul. That's ten minutes gone in the round. Cubbedge is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Elvul has managed to free his arm - good work. Elvul is not content to let Cubbedge control the position. Cubbedge is working for a submission here. He's got hold of the far side arm and he's looking for a kimura. He's cranking on the arm and he's got it! Elvul is tapping out! Ouch, that looked like it hurt!
