This TWGC bout is 1 fifteen minute round in the welterweight division. Introducing today's competitors. In the red corner, competing out of New York, with a TWGC record of 43 wins and 24 losses; Koryu Miyagi! And in the blue corner, fighting out of Las Vegas, with a TWGC record of 93 wins and 46 losses; Matvey Pavlov! The judges for this bout are Alexandre Firmino, Paulo Santos and Felipe Paraventi.
The official calls the fighters to the middle and the contest is under way. Pavlov looks for a takedown but Miyagi sprawls well. Pavlov darts in looking for a takedown but Miyagi gets double underhooks and turns Pavlov into the cage. Miyagi has Pavlov up against the cage in a clinch.
Pavlov is working for takedown but Miyagi is calmly controlling the position for now. Koryu Miyagi has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Matvey Pavlov. Miyagi has dropped down and is looking to force the takedown but it's defended by Pavlov after a bit of a struggle. Miyagi tries to score a body lock takedown but Pavlov shows good agility there to stay on his feet. Pavlov tries for a takedown but Miyagi manages to get underhooks.
Pavlov is working for takedown but Miyagi is calmly controlling the position for now. Miyagi is looking to take this one to the mat. Miyagi has dropped down and is working for a takedown. Pavlov is trying to keep an underhook but Miyagi manages to get the takedown into half guard. Miyagi keeping composed on the top, looking to control the action. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Pavlov is trying to get back to full guard. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
That's one minute gone in the round. Pavlov holds on for dear life, maintaining half guard for now. Miyagi performing his best blanket impression for a moment. Pavlov trying to hold on to Miyagi's head to control him but Miyagi postures up.
Pavlov is trying to avoid being dragged into an even worse position than he's already in but Miyagi is staying active. Miyagi is looking for the mount but instead finds himself back in full guard. Miyagi showing good wrestling skills to control the position.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Pavlov wants to improve his position but instead Miyagi has moved into half guard.
Pavlov has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Miyagi is working away from the top position though. Miyagi perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there. Pavlov tries to roll over but Miyagi keeps him under control. The referee calls for the fighters to work.

That's three minutes gone in the round. Pavlov wants to improve his position but Miyagi is controlling well.
Pavlov makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Pavlov. Pavlov has his hands on Miyagi's head, controlling the position.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Miyagi passes Pavlov's left leg - he's now in half guard. Miyagi trying to mount his opponent but Pavlov defends it. Pavlov tries to roll over but Miyagi keeps him under control. Miyagi takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position. Pavlov is trying to get back to full guard. Miyagi is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Miyagi seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Pavlov for as long as he can get away with.
That's five minutes gone in the round. Pavlov is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Miyagi's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Miyagi's back! Score +4 for clean sweep to past guard: Miyagi (2) vs (4) Pavlov Miyagi staying busy and making it hard for Pavlov to control. Pavlov is controlling his opponent, waiting for an opportunity to finish. Miyagi is trying to break free.
Pavlov is working for the rear naked choke. He has one arm under the chin but Miyagi has hold of the other arm. A bit of a stalemate here. Pavlov trying to control.
That's six minutes gone in the round. Pavlov looking for the choke from the back. Pavlov is not going to allow Miyagi to sit and survive in this position. Miyagi fending off the submission attempt from Pavlov. You can see the frustration on Miyagi's face… He knows he is in trouble unless he improves his position sooner rather than later.
Pavlov controls the action. Pavlov gets his hands free as Miyagi looks to control.
That's seven minutes gone in the round. Pavlov biding his time, looking for the opening.

Miyagi wants to control his opponent's hands but Pavlov gets his hands free. Pavlov has the rear naked choke here! This is very bad for Miyagi! Can he survive? No! He's out! Pavlov gets to his feet and celebrates with his cornermen. He looks absolutely delighted. In the post fight interviews he takes time to thank his parents and everyone who has believed in him from the start. How sweet.

Matvey Pavlov seemed lost for words in his post fight interview but he remembered to thank his fans and directed everyone to his website. Koryu Miyagi was interviewed post fight and said 'Ill train smarter and harder next time, so i come back stronger than ever!'. |
