PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Anthony Merel (ranked 306 p4p, 378 weight class) and Lincoln Storm (ranked 28 p4p, 33 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 24 - 16 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Anthony Merel!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 42 - 20 - 3, fighting out of Las Vegas, Lincoln Storm!
The judges for this bout are Ben Hemmingworth, Chris Dean and Eliza Hachem.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Merel closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
An elbow from Merel crashes against the mat.

Merel working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.
We've been hearing that Merel has been drilling a lot of ground and pound in training, so let's see if he get the finish.

Storm wants to control but Merel postures up.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Merel tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Merel has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!

The crowd cheers as Merel lands an impressive looking overhand right. Storm doesn't seem phased though.

Merel looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Storm is fending him off so far but Merel persists. Nope, Storm circles away and we're back to standing.

Storm has been spending a lot of time sparring his boxing in the run up to the fight, trying to sharpen up those hands and look for a knockout.
A looping hook to the body misses from Merel. Storm does a little dance to reset his feet.

The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Storm throws a solid leg kick but Merel takes the impact on his shin and smiles at Storm.

Storm throws a hook to the side of Merel's head but Merel sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.
Nice takedown defense from Storm. No joy for Merel on that attempt.
Merel swings for the body but Storm moves out of range.
Storm on the wrong end of an overhand right that came out of nowhere.

A telegraphed right hand from Merel misses the target.

Storm throws a decent looking leg kick but it doesn't land clean.
Lincoln Storm is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.

Storm rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Merel moves out of range and avoids them all easily.

Merel tries to free his leg and advance position but Storm is retaining full guard.
Merel wants to control from the top but Storm keeps moving.

Merel drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Storm manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Merel has Storm in his guard.


Merel escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Storm gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

Merel throws his legs up looking for a submission but Storm uses it to pass to side control.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Anthony Merel will probably get the nod.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.

Storm buckles his opponent's knee momentarily with a nice leg kick.
Storm throws a good cross that connects.

Merel drops down looking for a counter takedown but Storm sprawls and moves away.

Merel is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Storm's half guard.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

Storm is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.

Merel working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Storm doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Storm manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Storm avoids a guillotine attempt easily.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Merel working a defensive guard but Storm passes into half guard.

Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Storm remains in side control and seems content to stay there. It's a versatile position from which he can work both strikes and submissions, whilst maintaining that control, so maybe he'll sit here for a while.
Merel is moving his hips around well on the bottom and has managed to get back to half guard.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

A close second round but Lincoln Storm will probably get the nod - 10:9.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! Let's hear some noise people - this is the final round!

Oooooooooooh, not good. A low kick from Storm lands where it shouldn't have, right in the... well, you know what he did? He kicked him in the penis. He's injured, injured bad. The referee sends both fighters to their corners and Merel has 5 minutes to recover. He's OK now though... a thumbs up from Merel and we're back underway with a touch of gloves.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Merel tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Storm defends well and Merel ends up having to push Storm into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch.

Storm throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.

and Storm counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.

And that's the end of the fight!
Lincoln Storm comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Storm has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
