PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Xxx Xxx (ranked 23815 p4p, 23723 weight class) and Xxx Xxx (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Xxx Xxx told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 14 - 74 - 2, fighting out of Las Vegas, Xxx Xxx!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 67 - 21 - 2, fighting out of Las Vegas, Xxx Xxx!
The judges for this bout are Alan Glass, Wesley Smith and Frank Dennis.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
We've got one fighter who appears to only be looking to counter and the other not looking particularly aggressive either, so we could be in for a dull fight.
Fighter A has a takedown stuffed.
Fighter B tries a counter takedown but it's more of a dummy move, and he uses it to push himself away.

Fighter A closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Fighter B to the mat! Fighter B manages to get full guard.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Fighter B is pulling down on Fighter A's head. It's preventing any offense from Fighter A, at least for the moment.
Fighter A postures up in Fighter B's guard and throws a big left but Fighter B blocks it.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Fighter A with a flurry of punches that miss.
Fighter B throws some sloppy strikes off his back.
Fighter B looking for a sweep. Not yet Fighter B, not yet.
Fighter B utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.
Fighter A is fighting to break Fighter B's control of his arms but Fighter B is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
Fighter A thuds his shin into the meat of Fighter B's side.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Fighter B stuffs the takedown.
Fighter B throws a counter combo.
Fighter B slaps away a takedown attempt from Fighter A, before circling back to the center of the mat.
Fighter B thinks about the counter body kick.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Xxx Xxx. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Fighter A throws a front kick that sends Fighter B stumbling back into the cage.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Fighter A is trying hard to land a takedown here. Fighter B sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.

Fighter B drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.
Fighter A stuck in half guard on the bottom here.
Fighter A is trying to get back to half guard.
Fighter A is trying to control Fighter B's posture but Fighter B avoids it.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Fighter A being controlled for a moment.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Xxx Xxx dominated that round.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!

Fighter A shoots in but Fighter B avoids the takedown attempt easily.
Fighter B thinks about the counter body kick.
Fighter A closes this distance looking for a takedown but Fighter B circles away.
Fighter B is trying to counter with his kicks.
Fighter A fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Xxx Xxx. That's going to take a lot out of him.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Fighter B shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Fighter B is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.
Fighter B's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Fighter A is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Fighter B is stalling in the full guard.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Fighter A pulls Fighter B in close to prevent any damage.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up.

Fighter B drives through with a takedown into guard.
Fighter B working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Fighter A is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Xxx Xxx has got the better of the ground game so far.
Fighter B sitting in guard, not really doing much.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Fighter A is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Fighter B's corner is telling him to maintain position.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Xxx Xxx showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! This is the final round!


Fighter B fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Fighter A sprawls well initially but Fighter B persists and gets the takedown into half guard.
Fighter B looks to score some points with some ground and pound.
Fighter A is looking to control Fighter B's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Fighter A avoid being mounted?
Fighter A holds on for dear life, maintaining half guard for now.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Fighter A is looking for a sweep. Fighter B is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Fighter B takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.
Fighter A trying to control from the bottom.
The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Fighter B content to sit in half guard and control for a moment.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Fighter A looking to land some kicks to the body here.
Fighter B has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Fighter A closes this distance looking for a takedown but Fighter B circles away.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Fighter A.
Both fighters are looking to counter, which isn't making for the most exciting fight in the world.
Fighter A misses with a takedown
and Fighter B counters with a nice body kick.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Xxx Xxx. That's going to take a lot out of him.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.

Fighter B closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
Fighter B controlling the action here.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Fighter B is thwarting Fighter A's attempts to control the position.
Fighter A is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Fighter B performing his best blanket impression for a moment.
Fighter A has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Fighter B is working away from the top position though.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Fighter A keeping control of the position.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
Fighter B shoots in for a takedown but Fighter A shows good takedown defense.
Xxx Xxx has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Xxx Xxx is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.
Fighter A shoots in for a takedown but Fighter B shows good takedown defense.
As Fighter A backs off Fighter B throws a huge counter combo but Fighter A manages to avoid it all.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Fighter B changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Fighter A looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Fighter A is trying to escape the position but Fighter B is controlling the position.

And that's the end of the fight!
Xxx Xxx comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Fighter B has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3 rounds of action, we go to the scorecards for a decision.
