The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Mezias instigates a clinch. Mezias wants to break free. God knows he wants to breaaaak freeee. Dryupp takes an elbow to the temple. Mezias can't break the clinch.
Mezias breaks from the clinch.
Dryupp swats away the attempt to clinch by Mezias. Dryupp closes the distance and clinches up with Mezias, looking for a takedown. Dryupp pushes Mezias against the cage but Mezias circles to the side and manages to break the clinch. Alan Mezias seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Dryupp tries for a takedown but Mezias sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily. Dryupp swats away the attempt to clinch by Mezias. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Dryupp scores with a takedown into Mezias's guard. Mezias really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Dryupp. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out. Mezias looking to control.
That's one minute gone in the round. Mezias wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now. Dryupp content to stall in guard here. Dryupp thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position. Dryupp slips nicely into half guard. Dryupp thows a huge punch but Mezias dodges it nicely.
Mezias is trying is best to control the position here. Mezias manages to get to full guard.
Dryupp forces his way into half guard. Dryupp is working for a kimura but Mezias is defending it quite comfortably.

That's two minutes gone in the round. Dryupp trying to mount his opponent but Mezias defends it. Mezias pushes Dryupp off looking to stand but Dryupp dives back in and keeps control.
Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up. Dryupp shoots in and drives through. Mezias sprawls well. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Ricky Dryupp. That's going to take a lot out of him. Dryupp tries for a takedown but Mezias sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily. Dryupp looking for a takedown here - he's got it. Mezias has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Dryupp can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself. Mezias strikes from his own guard.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Mezias seems keen to control Dryupp's posture. Mezias is looking to stand up but Dryupp isn't so interested in that idea. Dryupp looking to pass the guard. Mezias keeping moving, preventing Dryupp from controlling successfully. Dryupp stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Mezias swivels though and keeps the full guard. Dryupp stops Mezias from standing up.
Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up. Mezias throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Mezias looks to land a combination but Dryupp avoids it well. Horrible takedown by Dryupp or perhaps it was just good defense by Mezias which made him look bad.
That's four minutes gone in the round. My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer. Mezias scores a takedown into full mount! Dryupp tries to lock up and control but Mezias gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away. Dryupp working to try and regain half guard.
Dryupp sneaks a leg under to get to half guard. Dryupp trying to control but Mezias postures up.
Dryupp gets back to full guard.
Dryupp is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Dryupp trying to keep a closed guard but Mezias is proving a slippery customer.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Ricky Dryupp dominated that round. The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!
Mezias is looking to slow Dryupp down with leg kicks. Mezias closes the distance and lands a one-two.
Dryupp is rocked! Mezias misses with a takedown and Dryupp counters with a takedown into full mount! That could mean trouble for Mezias! Dryupp goes for an armbar but he's not got it… Mezias turns into him and now he's in Dryupp's guard.
Mezias looking to pass the guard. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Dryupp isolates an arm and boxes in a triangle. Mezias stacks Dryupp on his neck as he steps over and passes to the side. He's now in a much more dominant position where he can look to do some serious damage. Nice move by Mezias! Mezias connects with a decent looking elbow from side control that caused Dryupp some visible discomfort.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here. Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Dryupp can't do much from the bottom here.
That's one minute gone in the round. Dryupp prevents Mezias from improving position. Dryupp is trying to get back to half guard. Dryupp is working hard here to advance position. Dryupp struggling a bit here. Dryupp is looking to reverse the position. Dryupp regains half guard. Dryupp wants to improve his position but Mezias is controlling well.
Ricky Dryupp overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Alan Mezias is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it. Mezias wants to clinch but Dryupp slips to the side and Dryupp counters with a takedown into side control. Mezias is not content to let Dryupp control the position. Dryupp has hold of Mezias's arm. He's looking for a kimura. Mezias seems comfortable defending it but Dryupp has shifted his position slighty and is cranking on the arm! Mezias is real pain and he's forced to tap out! Mezias is disgusted with himself for not defending it better but Dryupp couldn't care less - he's delighted!
