PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Dud Sprocket (ranked 5395 p4p, 4389 weight class) and Maxwell Johnston (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Dud Sprocket !
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Maxwell Johnston !
The judges for this bout are Igor Prikhodko, Aleksei Zolotukhin and Dmitry Maklakov.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Johnston shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Sprocket 's guard.
Johnston trying to control the position from guard on top but Sprocket is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Sprocket wants to stand up but Johnston is controlling him.
Sprocket utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Sprocket is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Johnston is controlling him.
Johnston tries to free his leg and advance position but Sprocket is retaining full guard.
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.
Sprocket could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Johnston preventing the sweep.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.
Johnston throws a sloppy head kick and Sprocket moves out of range easily.
Sprocket is looking to counter with a shot to the body.
Johnston misses with a series of wild punches.
Johnston tries to clinch up
and Sprocket counters with a straight right hand.

Johnston shoots in and gets a takedown into Sprocket 's guard.
Johnston won't allow Sprocket to get back to his feet.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Johnston gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent.
Johnston tries to clinch but Sprocket moves out of range.
A quick step to the side and Sprocket tries to counter with a shot to the body but it doesn't connect.

Johnston fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Sprocket to the ground. Johnston is now in Sprocket 's guard.
Sprocket wants to stand and escape but Johnston is having none of it.
Johnston landing with the ground and pound.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Sprocket wants to stand but Johnston is controlling the position.
Sprocket definitely looks more muscular than last time we saw him fight.
The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.
Johnston is looking to advance position but Sprocket has hit a scissor sweep - now he's on top in mount!

Johnston is trying to reverse the position but instead Sprocket has taken his back - oops!
Johnston staying busy and making it hard for Sprocket to control.
Johnston really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Sprocket . If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Sprocket is trying to stand.
Sprocket really has the hooks in deep now - there seems like no escape for Johnston .
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Sprocket wants to stand back up.
Sprocket biding his time, controlling Johnston .
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Maxwell Johnston will probably get the nod.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


Johnston drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.
Sprocket is looking to stand up but Johnston isn't so interested in that idea.
Johnston looking to sit in guard and control but Sprocket gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Sprocket tries to stand but Johnston is controlling from the bottom.

That's one minute gone in the round.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Sprocket decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Johnston , up you get!
Johnston tries a head kick but it misses.
Johnston fails in his attempt to clinch.

Johnston changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Sprocket looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
Maxwell Johnston has got the better of the ground game so far.
Sprocket tries to escape but Johnston is in control.

Johnston tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Johnston has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!

Sprocket pushes Johnston away and creates a bit of space to escape. He's almost out here... but no, Johnston gets a good hold of his legs and remains firmly in side control.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
Johnston takes a body punch that cleary hurt but he's trying not to show any weakness.

Sprocket takes the fight into the clinch.
Johnston prevents a body shot from Sprocket .
Johnston working hard to break the clinch.
Sprocket misses with a punch to the body.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Sprocket goes for a body shot but it's blocked.
Sprocket just leaning against Johnston , taking a breather.
Sprocket scores with a hook to the body.
A bit of stalling here from Sprocket .
Johnston is trying to pull guard but being pressed up against the cage enables Sprocket to keep the fight standing.

Sprocket 's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Johnston misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Sprocket swung with a counter punch to the body but it didn't connect.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Sprocket keeps the fight on the outside.
Maxwell Johnston is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Sprocket misses the shot to the body.
Johnston changes levels for a counter takedown but doesn't follow through with his attempt.
Johnston takes a solid shot to the body. That one hurt him but he's trying not to show it.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Dud Sprocket dominated that second round.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. This is the final round!

Sprocket checks the leg kick.
Sprocket throwing a counter right hand but Johnston manages to avoid it.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Johnston is defended easily by Sprocket .
The sound of bone on bone echoes around the arena as Sprocket checks a leg kick.
Johnston tries for a takedown but Sprocket circles away easily
and Johnston takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.

It looks like Maxwell Johnston has been cut.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Johnston throws a body kick but he was well out of range there.

Crack! Sprocket connects with the perfect overhand right and Johnston falls face first to the canvas. Timbeeeeeeeer! Beautiful knockout for Sprocket !
