Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Xavier Washington (ranked 3713 p4p, 1239 weight class) and Daniel Steel (ranked 435 p4p, 154 weight class). The atmosphere really building for this one as we go over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 11 - 10 - 1, fighting out of St Petersburg, Xavier Washington!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 12 - 8 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Daniel Steel!
The judges for this bout are Paul Gruel, Micheangelo Fripello and Josh West.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Washington wants to clinch
and Steel counters with a nice jab to the body that keeps Washington thinking.

Washington clinches up with Steel and pushes him back against the cage.
Steel jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Washington walks away with a smile on his face. Steel gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.
Steel scores with a punch to the gut of his opponent.
Steel looks to land a combination. Washington sees it coming but can only parry a couple of the shots.
Washington misses with a hook
enabling Steel to counter with a crisp jab.
Washington doesn't react quick enough there as he takes a shot to the body.
Washington moves to clinch but Steel breaks away
and Steel counters with a three punch combo that has Washington backing up. Washington nods at Steel to acknowledge the strikes.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Washington clinches up with Steel and pushes him back against the cage.

Steel ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Steel no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard.

Washington stays in close to Steel's body and controls the position.

Steel had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Washington defends it easily.

Steel has a closed guard, preventing Washington from standing up.
Washington showing good wrestling skills to control the position.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Washington would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

Steel is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
Steel pulls Washington in to control the position.
Washington knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Steel on the ground.
Washington trying to control the position from guard on top but Steel is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Washington's corner is telling him to maintain position.
Washington has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Steel is proving hard to escape from.
Our spies down at at The Scrap Squad inform us that Steel has really been working on his submissions in the buildup to this fight. Will it pay off?
Washington seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.

Washington got a little sloppy there for a moment and Steel has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Washington has managed to get both his arms back between Steel's legs - danger averted.

Steel is looking to cinch up a triangle. Washington throws the leg off to one side though and gets in tight to Steel's body to avoid the submission. Steel has instead reached around Washington's neck and now has a guillotine! Oh, this is biiiig trouble! Steel arches his back and squeezes and forces the tap from his hapless opponent.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:47 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Guillotine). Daniel Steel!
A relieved looking Daniel Steel thanked the fans for their support and gave the usual line about them being amazing. They seemed to believe that he actually meant it.
