This TWGC bout is 1 fifteen minute round in the featherweight division. Introducing today's competitors. In the red corner, competing out of Las Vegas, with a TWGC record of 1 wins and 0 losses; Mark Norman! And in the blue corner, fighting out of New York, with a TWGC record of 1 wins and 0 losses; Kelly Van Soest! The judges for this bout are Sam Margolis, Chris Edwards and Richard Clark.
The official calls the fighters to the middle and the contest is under way. Van Soest darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard. Score +2 for takedown into guard / half guard: Norman (0) vs (2) Van Soest We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake. Norman is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though. Norman trying to control here.
In the pre-fight buildup videos we saw Van Soest working his ground and pound in the gym. He isn't landing a great percentage of his ground strikes so far though. Norman is trying to get back to full guard. Van Soest trying to mount his opponent but Norman defends it. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Norman is looking to improve his position.

But Van Soest has managed to get out of it and now he's in a dominant position. Nice work from Van Soest! Norman is trying to control the action in half guard but Van Soest is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard. Norman works his foot free and advances to mount. Van Soest is squirming around, avoiding Norman's attempts to control the action. Norman swings around for an armbar but it's a sloppy attempt and Van Soest is now in Norman's guard.
