Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Derek Patterson (ranked 2666 p4p, 3968 weight class) and Sam Diego (ranked 336 p4p, 451 weight class). Patterson comes to the cage accompanied by I'm So High. Nashville Pussy. I can't wait for this one - let's get the fighter introductions out of the way and get this one started!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Diego on the wrong end of a nice hook.

Patterson clinches up with Diego and pushes him back against the cage.

Patterson is working on a single leg takedown against the cage. Diego can't fight it off and eventually Patterson manages to take the fight to the floor. Diego looks annoyed but at least he's managed to land in guard.
Diego is looking to stand back up but Patterson counters by passing into half guard. Oops... bit sloppy there by Diego.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Patterson connects with a nice short shot to Diego's temple.
Diego tries to push off, looking to stand up, but Patterson manages to move to mount!
Diego's corner are shouting for him to stand up but that's bad cornering - how is he meant to stand up when he's mounted? He should be looking to improve his position on the ground before trying to stand back up.

Diego felt the need to train up his defensive grappling in the buildup to the fight. Presumably he was expecting to be in a difficult position like this, so let's see if he can get out of it.

Patterson looks like he's working for a submission but he's not found anything just yet.
Diego is really trying hard to get back to his feet.

Patterson's jab looks to have found its range, popping Diego under the eye.

It looks like Sam Diego has been cut.
Patterson wants to clinch up but Diego keeps it at a distance.
And an attempted straight right on the counter from Diego! But no joy.
Patterson shoots in and drives through. Diego sprawls well.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Patterson rushes Diego and presses him up against the cage.
Diego is still on wobbly legs! Can Patterson finish him?
Diego blocks a couple of punches on the inside.

Diego pushes Patterson back against the cage and lands a hook to the side of the head.

Diego is trying to break the clinch but Patterson has him pressed against the cage.

Patterson swings away with an uppercut that misses.

Patterson gets the body lock takedown. After a quick scramble, Diego regains guard.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Patterson makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard.
Diego wants to get back to his feet but he's too absorbed in his own little project and Patterson manages to pass to side control.
Diego pushes Patterson off but Patterson dives into side control.

Diego is trying to stand back up. He's worked his way up against the cage but Patterson has just dragged him back down to the mat.
Patterson is putting a hurting on Diego here, landing some big shots from side control.
A big shot lands for Patterson! That's hurt Diego! Will he recover? Patterson fires away with more strikes and the referee has to step in to stop the fight!
