This TWGC bout is 1 fifteen minute round in the super heavyweight division. Introducing today's competitors. In the red corner, competing out of New York, with a TWGC record of 43 wins and 16 losses; Nick Rodriquez! And in the blue corner, fighting out of New York, with a TWGC record of 26 wins and 30 losses; Anthony Lavicci! The judges for this bout are Paul Tew, Richard Clark and Daniel Bishop.
The fighters bow as they face eachother in the middle of the mat and we are under way. Lavicci shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat. Score +2 for takedown into guard / half guard: Rodriquez (0) vs (2) Lavicci Rodriquez is doing well to control the posture of his opponent and prevent any damage. Rodriquez keeping moving, preventing Lavicci from controlling successfully. Lavicci is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long. Lavicci trying to control the position from guard on top but Rodriquez is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Lavicci trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.

Presumably he's going to look for a slick submission... Or maybe he's looking to avoid one. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Lavicci trying to pass the guard but Rodriquez defending well. Rodriquez has his hands clasped together around Lavicci's back. He's all about the action. Lavicci wants to lay and pray for a moment but Rodriquez keeps working. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Lavicci slows the pace down in half guard.

Rodriquez has been talking about how he's improved his wrestling in the run up to the fight so let's see if that's enough to sway the balance. Lavicci is keen to just control but Rodriquez is a slippery customer. Lavicci wants to work for an arm triangle but Rodriquez is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.
Rodriquez is not content to let Lavicci control the position.

That's eight minutes gone in the round. Lavicci prevents Rodriquez from improving position. Lavicci is being controlled here. Lavicci is trying to control Rodriquez's posture but Rodriquez avoids it. Lavicci is trying to get back to half guard. We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.
That's nine minutes gone in the round. Lavicci manages to get one leg in to regain half guard. Rodriquez controlling the action here. Lavicci trying to control but Rodriquez postures up.
That's ten minutes gone in the round. Rodriquez is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen. Lavicci is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
That's eleven minutes gone in the round. Rodriquez wants to pass the guard but Lavicci is defending well. Rodriquez is figuring out what he wants to do next. Rodriquez trying to pass the guard but Lavicci defending well.
That's twelve minutes gone in the round. Rodriquez stalling away here and it's allowed Lavicci to slip out his trapped foot and regain full guard. Lavicci pulls Rodriquez in close to prevent any damage. Rodriquez not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.
That's thirteen minutes gone in the round. Rodriquez tries to free his leg and advance position but Lavicci is retaining full guard. Rodriquez pushes down on Lavicci's leg and manages to get into half guard.
That's fourteen minutes gone in the round. Rodriquez with a momentary lay and pray from half guard. Lavicci is trying to control but Rodriquez passes into side control!

And that's the end of the fight! Rodriquez takes the fight on points by 8 to 2. Our winner, Nick Rodriquez, made sure he spent some time buttering up the crowd during his post fight interview, which will no doubt bring him a few more fans. |
