Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the heavyweight championship of the world! Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of 10 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Yngve Laake! And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of 26 - 12 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Beau Abner! The judges for this bout are Alexandre Firmino, Mauricio Rocha and Edson Gomes.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Abner attempts a leg kick but it's missed by a good margin. A combination from Laake does no damage. A big right from Laake misses. Abner has been spending a lot of time sparring his boxing in the run up to the fight, trying to sharpen up those hands and look for a knockout. Laake misses with a double jab
and Abner counters with a straight right hand.
It looks like Yngve Laake has been cut. Abner slips under a jab from Laake. Laake lands three nice shots there - that looked like it hurt!

Decent striking displayed by Abner there. Laake misses with an uppercut. Abner lands a lovely overhand right. Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Laake misses with a double jab
and Abner counters with a slapping leg kick. Laake misses with a telegraphed body shot
and Abner counters with a right hand that sends Laake tumbling to the canvas! Can Abner finish him? He dives into Laake's guard looking to do just that!
Laake is rocked! Abner trying to control but Laake is working from the bottom.
That's one minute gone in the round. The fighters are tangled up in the ropes here. We might need a restart if the fighters can't break free themselves. Abner is looking to work some ground and pound but Laake has wrist control. Abner slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard. It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.
The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.
That's two minutes gone in the round. My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer. Abner scores with a big left there. The judges will like that one. Abner misses with a two punch combination.
Laake misses with a body shot.
Laake is looking to slow Abner down with leg kicks. A big right from Abner misses. Abner throws an off balance right hand
and Laake counters with a quick right hand to the jaw. Laake looks to have improved his striking defense since last time we saw him fight. Laake throws a solid leg kick but Abner takes the impact on his shin and smiles at Laake. Abner lunges in with an uppercut that skims his opponent's chin. Abner lands with an overhand left.
Yngve Laake's cut is getting worse. Laake stuns Abner with a nice body shot, before stepping back out of range. A good leg kick by Laake. Yngve Laake seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Abner avoids the body shot from Laake.
A low kick from Laake misses and Abner makes him pay by landing a thudding low kick. Abner throws a body kick that misses and Laake counters with a stiff right hand. Laake lands with an overhand left. Laake moves out of range of the strikes. Laake cracks a nice hook into Abner's ribs. Laake misses with a body shot
and Abner counters with a stiff right hand. A swing and a miss from Laake. Laake throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle. Laake throws a hook but Abner avoids it easily. Laake jabbing away but nothing is landing. Laake throws a right hand that misses
and Abner counters with a stiff right hand. Laake lands a leg kick. The shin dug right into the meat of the thigh. This has been an exciting period of action! Abner throws a poor cross that misses
and Laake cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Laake throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Abner. Laake bobs and weaves and unloads with a good uppercut. Laake misses with a jab to the body
and Abner connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle. Abner throws a big shot that misses. Laake throws a head kick that connects with a bit of head and a bit of hand.
A clash of legs there as Abner blocks the low kick. Laake sees a low kick coming and goes to check it, but it's actually a body kick and it thuds into his unprotected ribs. Laake misses with a hook. Abner ducked under it nicely. Laake bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes. Laake misses with a left hand and he gets countered with a snapping leg kick. Laake is breathing heavily. Laake misses with a looping left. The crowd applaud the fighters' efforts here as the round comes to an end. Laake throws a lazy uppercut
and Abner cracks him with a counter punch right on the button. Laake waving his hands out in front of him, looking to distract Abner. Abner checks a low kick from Laake. Abner thumps Laake with a low kick. And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.
Beau Abner dominated that round. The cut man is working on Yngve Laake's cut. The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! Abner throws a hook but Laake avoids it easily. Laake throws a couple of head shots and lands with the final one - a decent hook, which struck Abner on the side of the head. Abner avoids a lazy jab quite easily. Laake feints and then cracks Abner's leading leg with a nice low kick. He's obviously looking to slow Abner down. A kick lands to the mid section there for Abner. Abner lands a left and a right that sends Laake crashing to the canvas! Abner dives into mount looking to finish! Oh Laake is still in real trouble! Will he be able to recover?!! The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring. Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! Laake tries to hold on but Abner postures up. Laake seems to have got his legs back now. Abner trying to control but he's not successful this time. Abner content just to control the position here. Abner trying to control but Laake is having none of it.
That's one minute gone in the round. The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily. Abner content just to control the position here. Laake is squirming around, avoiding Abner's attempts to control the action. Abner controlling the pace for now. Abner thowing shots but they're missing.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless. Abner thuds his fist into the canvas! Oooouch!
Abner looking to control but Laake is working nicely, looking to advance position himself. Abner sends his fist crashing into the mat - the crowd let out a collective ooooooh. Let's hope he's not broken it! Abner controlling the pace for now. Abner has been the more effective fighter overall so far. Laake can't escape the position.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Abner punching from mount but Laake doing a good job of avoiding damage. Abner trying to control but Laake is having none of it. Abner looking to control and managing it successfully.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it. Abner trying to control but he's not successful this time. Poor strikes thrown by Abner there. More accuracy and less frantic strikes would help!
Laake tries to reverse the position but Abner maintains control. Abner tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position. The crowd thankful this round is nearly over. Abner wants to control the pace but Laake is squirming around nicely. And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.
Beau Abner showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards. The cut man is working on Yngve Laake's cut. The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! Laake punishes Abner's body with a nice straight punch. Laake scores with a nice one two combo and darts back out of range to avoid anything coming in the opposite direction. Beau Abner seems to be getting the better of the standup. Laake connects with a lovely right hand, straight down the pipe. Laake bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes. Thud! ouch! good body kick from Abner - that will leave a mark!

and Abner counters with a head kick that drops Laake! This has been an exciting period of action! Abner controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.
That's one minute gone in the round. Abner pushing down on Laake's thigh, trying to pass to half guard. He's managed it... Nice work. Abner prevents Laake from improving his position. Abner is looking to take a break and control but Laake is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom. Abner works his way into full mount! Laake is working to get back to half guard.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Abner controlling from mount. Abner throwing strikes here but Laake is writhing around nicely and avoiding any serious damage.
Abner can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Laake is looking to escape. Abner punching from mount but Laake doing a good job of avoiding damage.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Abner controlling from the full mount. Abner is continuing to stall. Abner unloads with some shots from mount but Laake bucks and avoids them well.

That's four minutes gone in the round. The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so. Laake is squirming around, avoiding Abner's attempts to control the action. Abner throwing shots from mount but they're not landing. Abner controlling his opponent. Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out! Laake blocking the ground and pound. And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.
