Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Don Cortez (ranked 502 p4p, 510 weight class) and Kokkoro Kirin (ranked 37 p4p, 39 weight class). Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of 21 - 12 - 1, fighting out of Las Vegas, Don Cortez! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of 23 - 14 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Kokkoro Kirin! The judges for this bout are Andrew Berry, Paul Tew and James Glass.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Kirin takes a jab right on the kisser.
Cortez uses good head movement to avoid the hook from Kirin. Kirin throws out a token jab with nothing on it. Cortez shoots in for a takedown but Kirin shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet. And an attempted straight right on the counter from Kirin! But no joy. Cortez swings for the body but Kirin moves out of range.
Kirin swings and misses with a hook to the body.
Wow, both these guys are really going for it! Kirin doesn't manage to clinch there - Cortez circles away.
Kirin lands with a cross. Cortez has been talking about how he's improved his wrestling in the run up to the fight so let's see if that's enough to sway the balance. Kirin slaps away a takedown attempt from Cortez, before circling back to the center of the mat. Cortez closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Kirin quickly recovers to half guard. Cortez tries to pass to full mount but Kirin defends it. Cortez perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there. Cortez is working for a submission here. He's got hold of the far side arm and he's looking for a kimura. He's cranking on the arm and he's got it! Kirin is tapping out! Ouch, that looked like it hurt!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:59 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). Don Cortez! After the fight, Don Cortez was humble in paying tribute to his opponent but made it clear he wants to go on to bigger and better things. It seemed to go down well with the crowd who cheered him loudly.
