PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Ripp Colton (ranked 2886 p4p, 5213 weight class) and Lane Hedley (ranked 157 p4p, 479 weight class). Lane Hedley told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 7 - 6 - 1, fighting out of Montreal, Ripp Colton!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Lane Hedley!
The judges for this bout are Albert Achterberg, Aafke Stam and Paul Aken.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Colton looks to land a left hand but Hedley moved out of range nicely.
Colton misses with a hook. Hedley ducked under it nicely.
Colton throws a jab but it's blocked by Hedley.

Hedley closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.

Hedley pulls guard successfully.

Hedley looking for subs off his back but Colton has passed one foot through into half guard.
Colton prevents Hedley from improving his position.
Hedley wants to control but Colton is keeping busy and won't allow it.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Hedley moves into full guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Colton won't allow Hedley to sweep him here.

Hedley has his foot on Colton's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Colton works his way back into a safe position though.

Hedley controls Colton momentarily but Colton frees himself.

Hedley is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Hedley throws his legs up looking to secure a triangle. Oh, that looks pretty tight, I gotta say! Colton escapes and throws Hedley's legs to the side, diving into side control!
Hedley is positioning himself to get back to half guard.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Hedley is moving his hips around well on the bottom and has managed to get back to half guard.

Hedley is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Colton pulls his head out easily.
Hedley has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Colton is working away from the top position though.
Hedley regains full guard. Nicely done.

Hedley has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Colton can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Hedley is on top in guard.

Hedley wants to control from the top but Colton keeps moving.
Hedley wants to pass the guard but Colton is keeping the position.

Hedley drops back, looking for a kneebar! Colton looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Colton looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Colton!

Hedley is looking for a sweep.
Hedley felt the need to train up his defensive grappling in the buildup to the fight. Presumably he was expecting to be in a difficult position like this, so let's see if he can get out of it.

Hedley gets back to half guard.
Hedley wants to improve his position but Colton is controlling well.

Hedley is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Colton pulls his head out easily.
Hedley is looking for a sweep. Colton is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Hedley makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Hedley.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. This is the final round!

Hedley jumps guard but Colton stands there with Hedley around his waist. Hedley gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.

I would just about give that final round to Lane Hedley.
I've got Hedley winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.

After the fight, Lane Hedley was humble in paying tribute to his opponent but made it clear he wants to go on to bigger and better things. It seemed to go down well with the crowd who cheered him loudly.
