PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight kickboxing rules bout between Eron Saunders (ranked 3418 p4p, 2797 weight class) and African King (ranked 194 p4p, 158 weight class). Eron Saunders has a significant reach advantage - let's see if he can make it count.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 4 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 26 - 22 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Eron Saunders!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 14 - 20 - 0, fighting out of London, African King!
The judges for this bout are Colin Fray, Roger Salmon and Chris Saunders.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Saunders misses with the combination.

Saunders closes the distance and pushes King back into the ropes.

Saunders's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.

King has managed to clinch.
Saunders blocking some punches.
Saunders tries to work over King's body with a swooping hook but it only glances the target.
King swings wildly with an uppercut but Saunders uses good head movement to avoid it.
King misses with a body punch.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Saunders lands a hook that snaps the head of King backwards.

Saunders blocks a couple of punches on the inside.
We can't be sure of the tactics at this early stage but we have heard that King has been working on his takedowns a lot in the buildup to the fight and we can only assume he's going to look to take this to the mat.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Saunders misses with an elbow over the top.
King fails to land with a short punch on the inside.
Saunders goes for a body shot but it's blocked.
King blocks the elbow strike.
King lands a body punch in the clinch.
King is stalling here.
Saunders is trying to push King away but King has him pressed against the ropes, so he's going nowhere.
Saunders blocks a couple of punches on the inside.
Saunders lands with a quick shot inside that doesn't really do much damage.
Both guys are working to get underhooks.
King content to slow the pace in the clinch.
Saunders's corner are urging him to control the action in the clinch for a moment, rather than mount any serious offense. I'm sure the crowd appreciate those instructions... not.

Saunders escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
King tries to close the distance and clinch up against the ropes but Saunders paws at him with a jab and circles away.

King throws a jab, cross combination which is slipped
and Saunders counters with a nice uppercut.
Saunders lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but King circles away quickly and effectively.
King throws a series of strikes that have Saunders backpedaling.
Saunders has been working on his boxing with his coaches at 4 in the buildup to the fight.
King tries to clinch
letting Saunders counter with a right hand.

It looks like African King has been cut.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Saunders misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from King.
Saunders lands a nice shot to the body.
King goes for a spinning back kick but it misses.
Saunders tries to close the distance and clinch but King swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
A little jabbing left from King on the counter but it doesn't find it's target.

Saunders lands with a right, followed by a left to the temple and King goes down! The ref sends Saunders to a neutral corner so he can begin the count. 3,4,5,6 and King is back to his feet. He seems a little groggy but the referee thinks he's OK to continue, so we're back to the action!

King is rocked!

and Saunders counters with a nice body shot.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Eron Saunders dominated that round.
The cut man is working on African King's cut.
That's time! Saunders's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.

King drops his guard momentarily, allowing Saunders to crack him with a picture perfect lead left hook! Boom! Down goes King! Oh, he's in big trouble - I don't like his chances here as the referee's count reaches 5. 6,7,8,9...10! He's out! Saunders takes it!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:05 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Punch). Eron Saunders!
Eron Saunders decided to go for the less than humble approach in his post fight interview, telling everyone how he is going to conquer the world. The crowd seemed to like it when really that sort of approach could have gone either way.
