PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Mombasa Magabi (ranked 2848 p4p, 3562 weight class) and Elton Sparks (ranked 303 p4p, 389 weight class). Both these guys have solid standup skills and neither is particularly fantastic on the ground, so let's hope for a nice standup war!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 2 - 0, fighting out of New York, Mombasa Magabi !
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Elton Sparks!
The judges for this bout are Steve Smith, Ian Loll and Alec Ball.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Magabi slips a jab from Sparks.
Sparks tries to check a leg kick but that clearly hurt him.
Magabi lands a pitter patter jab to the forehead of his opponent.
Magabi moves out of range of the strikes.
Sparks clobbers Magabi with an overhand right that has the crowd gasping. That made a horrendous noise.

It looks like Mombasa Magabi has been cut.
Sparks has his head snapped back a nice jab. A little nod from Sparks there as he acknowledges the shot.
Magabi keeps Sparks at a distance using the push kick.
Sparks looks more muscular than last time we saw him. He must have been on the weights.
Sparks looks to land a right hand but Magabi moved out of range.
Magabi fires out a quick counter leg kick but Sparks just manages to avoid it.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Magabi scores with a jab.
Sparks is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Magabi .
Sparks throws an off balance right hand
and Magabi makes him pay by landing a nice hook to the body before moving out of range.
Magabi looks to have improved his striking defense since last time we saw him fight.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Sparks throws a body shot but no joy.
Magabi lands with a nice low kick. That'll leave a bruise.
Sparks throws a hook but Magabi blocks it.
Sparks is really struggling to land any decent head shots against his taller opponent.
Sparks throws a lazy uppercut
and Magabi counters with a nice low kick that buckles Sparks's knee momentarily.
Magabi misses with a low kick.
Magabi displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Sparks throws out the jab.
Sparks throws an ugly left hook that misses
and Magabi counters with a nice body shot.
Magabi dances in quickly and lands a nice inside leg kick on Sparks. That did some damage!
Magabi takes a shot to the eye socket. That's gotta hurt.
A punch lands to the side of Sparks 's head but he takes it in his stride.

Magabi is looking to slow Sparks down with leg kicks.
Sparks throws an ugly left hook that misses
and Sparks takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Magabi moves out of range of the strikes.
Sparks catches Magabi with a nice straight right. He seems pissed - ooooh, it's on now! On like donkey kong!
Sparks lands with an overhand left.
Magabi misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
Magabi slips a jab from Sparks.
Sparks has a nice red mark on his side after a thudding body kick by Magabi .
Sparks throws a poor cross that misses
and Magabi cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.
Magabi connects with the punch.
Sparks misses with a hook
and Magabi counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.

Sparks is rocked!
Magabi is really peppering his opponent's head with punches.

Sparks throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Magabi with a nice calf kick.
Magabi throws a leg kick which misses Sparks's front leg but catches the back leg as Sparks tries to avoid it.
Sparks tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Magabi was well out of range. Poor timing from Sparks.
Magabi looked to counter that last move with a leg kick but didn't pull the trigger.
Magabi connects with a nice looking jab.

and Magabi counters with a crisp right hand that drops Sparks! Magabi lets Sparks back up to his feet, looking for a finish!
Sparks is still on wobbly legs! Can Magabi finish him?
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Magabi shakes his hands by his side, trying to relax. Sparks takes his eyes off the ball for a moment - Magabi sees the opportunity and cracks him with a massive hook! Sparks bends double and collapses on top of himself - he's out! The crowd are going absolutely nuts! Wow, what a knockout!
