This TWGC bout is 1 fifteen minute round in the super heavyweight division. Introducing today's competitors. In the red corner, competing out of London, with a TWGC record of 64 wins and 67 losses; Able Archer! And in the blue corner, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, with a TWGC record of 60 wins and 45 losses; Tommy Toehold! The judges for this bout are Felipe Paraventi, Edson Gomes and Paulo Santos.
The fighters connect hands in the middle of the mat and we are under way. Archer displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Toehold. A momentary lapse in concentration from Archer enables Toehold to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Archer manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat. Score +2 for takedown into guard / half guard: Archer (0) vs (2) Toehold Archer is trying to keep Toehold in close.
Toehold stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Archer swivels though and keeps the full guard. Toehold won't allow Archer to sweep him here. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Toehold is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.

The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Archer is trying is best to control the position here. Archer is trying to get back to full guard. Toehold wants to advance to full mount but Archer doesn't think that's going to happen and regains full guard instead.

Apparently he has been rolling around with some good quality BJJ practitioners and has been sharpening his skills. Let's see if that has an impact on the fight today.
