PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Patrick Carswell (ranked 4051 p4p, 5703 weight class) and Richard Vasquez (ranked 416 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Patrick Carswell!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of London, Richard Vasquez!
The judges for this bout are Yuuki Gou, Shigeki Fujiwara and Sosuke Kotani.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Vasquez shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Carswell but Carswell pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Vasquez tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Carswell swivels and escapes.

and Vasquez takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.

Carswell uses good footwork to get in and out and land a nice right hand before Vasquez has time to react.

It looks like Patrick Carswell has been cut.
Vasquez leaves Carswell with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Vasquez throws a fast counter high kick but Carswell manages to duck under it in time.

Carswell has his foot on Vasquez's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Vasquez works his way back into a safe position though.

Carswell throws his legs up looking to secure a triangle. Oh, that looks pretty tight, I gotta say! Vasquez escapes and throws Carswell's legs to the side, diving into side control!

Vasquez is in full mount, looking to secure a guillotine but Carswell is surviving well by controlling Vasquez's body position as best he can.

Carswell knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Vasquez on the ground.

The crowd growing excited in anticipation of a finish here! Right on cue, Vasquez cracks his opponent with a massive right hand that draws loud cheers!

Vasquez misses with a series of strikes from mount. He'll no doubt be working on his ground and pound when he gets back to the gym.

Let's hope that Vasquez has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.
Carswell sneaks a leg back under and regains half guard and is working straight away to try and get back to guard. He hasn't managed just yet though.

Carswell tries to push off, looking to stand up, but Vasquez manages to move to mount!
Vasquez takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
Carswell is looking to get to half guard.
Carswell is trying to reverse the position but instead Vasquez has taken his back - oops!
Vasquez has good solid back control here.
Carswell grimaces as he takes a shot to the body.

Well Vasquez has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
