Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between EL Chapo (ranked 2920 p4p, 2087 weight class) and Tim Holmberg (ranked 349 p4p, 252 weight class). There are an array of beautiful celebrities at ringside tonight! I wonder if any of them paid for their tickets.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of 3 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, EL Chapo! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of 3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Tim Holmberg! The judges for this bout are Phil Schofield, James Atkins and Paul Tew.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Chapo uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Holmberg. Holmberg lands an overhand left. A wild punch that just about connected. Chapo scores with a nice looking left hook and follows it up with an uppercut!
It looks like Tim Holmberg has been cut. Holmberg swinging wildly here.
Chapo thinks about countering with a head kick. Holmberg fails with the takedown and Chapo counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Holmberg closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Chapo did well to prevent Holmberg getting side control. Holmberg is trying to control. Chapo wants to improve his position but can't escape this time. Holmberg thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
That's one minute gone in the round. Chapo wants to get back to full guard. Chapo is trying to stand up here but Holmberg is controlling him well. My spies in The Tank Factory inform me that Holmberg has been getting involved in the gym's BJJ sparring sessions. Let's see whether that pays dividends! Chapo on the receiving end of some nice ground and pound. Holmberg working Chapo over with strikes.
It looks like EL Chapo has been cut. Chapo taking some punishment here, with Holmberg in his half guard. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Holmberg not landing any meaningful shots this time. Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Holmberg in particular looking to stall. That's four minutes gone in the round. A head kick misses from Chapo. Chapo looks to have improved his striking defense since last time we saw him fight. Holmberg fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt. Holmberg throws a left and a right that both miss
and Chapo counters with a lovely straight right hand! Holmberg dips to his left and cracks Chapo with an uppercut! Holmberg keeping his hands up high there, blocking the jab from Chapo. Holmberg misses with a takedown attempt and Chapo counters with a lovely straight right hand! EL Chapo has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Tim Holmberg. The crowd are loving this. Great action here. Chapo keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl. It looked like Chapo wanted to counter with a hook but didn't fully commit. And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.
That was a close round but I would say that EL Chapo will probably get the nod. Both fighters have cut men working on them during the interval. The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action! Chapo throws a hook but Holmberg blocks it. Holmberg changes levels for a counter takedown but doesn't follow through with his attempt. Holmberg misses with a double jab.
Chapo displaying good standup as he scores with a three punch combination. Chapo gets caught flat footed, as Holmberg shoots in with a quick takedown into guard. Chapo is scooting his butt against the cage and has managed to get back to his feet. Holmberg presses him back against the cage, presumably looking to take the fight back to the mat. Chapo is using his height advantage well here, landing a good percentage of his punches. Chapo has Holmberg pressed against the cage, preventing Holmberg from circling away and getting back to striking at range. Chapo pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat. EL Chapo is winning the standup battle so far. The crowd are loving this. Great action here. Horrible takedown attempt by Holmberg or perhaps it was just good defense by Chapo, which made it look bad. Chapo seem to be loading up, looking for a big counter. Holmberg fails with the takedown and Chapo counters with a stiff right hand.
That's one minute gone in the round. Holmberg shoots for a double leg takedown but Chapo sprawls well. He's pushed Holmberg's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily. Chapo is looking for a counter combo. EL Chapo has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Tim Holmberg. Chapo throws an overhand right that lands on Holmberg's shoulder, as Holmberg tries to avoid the shot. Holmberg tries a counter takedown but it's more of a dummy move, and he uses it to push himself away. Holmberg doesn't succeed with the takedown and Chapo counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw. Chapo throws a right hand that Holmberg ducks under and follows up with a left that Holmberg also avoids with ease. And Holmberg tries to counter it with a takedown but Chapo pushes his down on his head and steps out. Holmberg falls off balance throwing a combination
and Chapo counters with a stiff right hand. Holmberg on the wrong end of an overhand right that came out of nowhere.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Chapo thows a left - swing and a miss! Chapo moves out of range of the strikes. Chapo gets cracked there but stands up to it.
Chapo throws a right and a left that Holmberg avoids nicely. Holmberg drops down looking to force a counter takedown but Chapo defends it well. EL Chapo is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs. Chapo staying out of range there. Holmberg shoots in and drives through. Chapo sprawls well. Chapo went nuts there looking for a big combo counter but none of the flurry connected. Holmberg throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Chapo was covering up waiting for the punch and Holmberg finishes the takedown easily into guard. Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! Chapo keeping moving, preventing Holmberg from controlling successfully.
That's three minutes gone in the round. The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult. Chapo is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent. Holmberg distracts Chapo with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm. Holmberg cracks Chapo with a solid left hand. Chapo avoiding any damage from the ground and pound. Holmberg is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control. Holmberg working some strikes from top position.
EL Chapo's cut is getting worse. Holmberg in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.
That's four minutes gone in the round. My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer. Holmberg postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect. Chapo wants to get back to his feet but Holmberg is in a dominant position and won't allow it. Holmberg is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long. Holmberg is in close to Chapo's body, working some short punches and elbows. Holmberg controlling from the top position. Holmberg looking to sit in guard and control but Chapo gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top. Holmberg is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive. And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.
EL Chapo dominated that second round. Both fighters have cut men working on them during the interval. OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. This is the final round! Holmberg throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land. Chapo is really head hunting here, hardly looking to strike to the body at all. Chapo catches Holmberg with a nice straight right. He seems pissed - ooooh, it's on now! On like donkey kong! Chapo looks shocked there as he takes a right hand to the temple. Tim Holmberg seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Chapo misses with a looping right. Holmberg drops down looking to force a counter takedown but Chapo defends it well. EL Chapo is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things. Chapo throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Holmberg sees it coming and avoids it easily. Holmberg on the wrong end of a kick to the body.

Holmberg is definitely looking for the counter takedowns here. A decent looking cross lands there for Chapo. Holmberg shoots and misses and Holmberg takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles. Chapo connects with a lovely right hand, straight down the pipe. Holmberg closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Chapo to the mat! Chapo manages to get full guard. Holmberg prevents Chapo from getting back to his feet.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Holmberg's corner is telling him to maintain position. Holmberg has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan. Chapo avoiding any damage from the ground and pound. Chapo can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Holmberg controls the pace. Holmberg missing there with some ground and pound from the guard. Holmberg controls the pace of the fight for a moment. Chapo managing to control the position. Holmberg trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.
The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity. This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Holmberg uses good head movement to avoid the hook from Chapo.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Holmberg misses with an uppercut. Chapo appeared to be looking to counter that last move with a leg kick. A big right from Holmberg misses. Holmberg avoids the head kick by Chapo.
Nice body punch from Chapo. Holmberg darts in looking for a takedown but Chapo gets double underhooks and turns Holmberg into the cage. Good standup being displayed there by Chapo as he connects with a hook. Decent striking displayed by Chapo there. Chapo scores with a jab. Holmberg acknowledges it with a nod of the head.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Chapo digs a good body shot into Holmberg's ribs. Chapo throws a head kick that connects with a bit of head and a bit of hand.
Holmberg shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Chapo manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage. Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Holmberg engaging in some classic timewasting tactics. Holmberg trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat. Holmberg throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent. Tim Holmberg has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here! EL Chapo is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach. Holmberg throws a big elbow that misses.
And that's the end of the fight! EL Chapo showed his dominance in that final round. Well I reckon that's a shut out for Chapo, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
