Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Kurki Potku (ranked 379 p4p, 549 weight class) and Shaun Gonzalez (ranked 51 p4p, 75 weight class). Gonzalez comes into a darkened arena with his song building. Mind Playing Tricks On Me - Geto Boys kicks in, the lights come on and the crowd goes wild! What a showman! Shaun Gonzalez has the eye of the tiger tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 24 - 14 - 0, fighting out of New York, Kurki Potku!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 14 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Shaun Gonzalez!
The judges for this bout are Hirohito Nitta, Yuuki Gou and Yukihiro Yamamoto.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Gonzalez slips under a jab from Potku.
Potku dives in for a single leg takedown but Gonzalez sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage.
Gonzalez blocks a couple of punches on the inside.
Gonzalez takes a shot to the head.
Potku can't find room to land a body shot as Gonzalez controls the action.
Gonzalez lands with a short punch from the clinch.
Potku misses with the head strike.
Potku lands punches inside but they're not really causing much damage.
Potku goes for a takedown in the clinch but Gonzalez prevents it.

Gonzalez uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from Potku.
It seemed like Gonzalez was going to counter with the hook but didn't fully commit to it.
Gonzalez throws a head kick that connects with a bit of head and a bit of hand.
Potku throws a head kick that half lands.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Gonzalez connects with a leg kick. He turned his hip over nicely there.

Potku is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Gonzalez has escaped the position, nice work there.

Gonzalez is looking to regain half guard here but Potku keeps moving and retains side control.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.

Potku tries for a kimura but Gonzalez is defending well.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Potku swings around for an armbar but Gonzalez sees it coming a mile off and turns beautifully into Potku's guard.
Gonzalez slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.

And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Kurki Potku will probably get the nod.
Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin!

Potku tries a low kick but Gonzalez avoids it.
Gonzalez now looks to counter with a shot at the body.
Potku missing with a left hand there. Gonzalez was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one.
Gonzalez walks forward, straight into a front kick from Potku.

Potku throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.
Potku changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Gonzalez tries to avoid it but Potku manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Gonzalez to the ground. Gonzalez escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Gonzalez scores with a reasonable looking shot to the body. Potku doesn't seem bothered though.

Potku takes a nice looking leg kick right on the meat of his thigh there.
Kurki Potku seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Potku fakes a jab and scores with a low kick.
Potku goes for a spinning back kick but it misses.
Gonzalez let fly with a counter punch to the body but it didn't land.
Gonzalez lands an overhand right.
Potku looks to land a body kick but Gonzalez moved away.
Shaun Gonzalez seems to be getting the better of the standup.
Gonzalez lands a leg kick that knocks Potku off balance momentarily.
Gonzalez displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Potku.
Potku moves in looking to clinch but Gonzalez pushes him off.

Gonzalez is clearly trying to counter these attacks from Potku with a body shot.
Potku displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Gonzalez throws out the jab.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

Potku shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Potku showed some decent athleticism there.
Kurki Potku overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Potku prevents Gonzalez from improving his position.
Gonzalez felt the need to train up his defensive grappling in the buildup to the fight. Presumably he was expecting to be in a difficult position like this, so let's see if he can get out of it.

Potku looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.

Potku fakes a couple of low kicks, before throwing one on the third attempt. It connects and Gonzalez has to reset his feet before getting ready to engage.

It looked like Potku was trying to counter with a body shot coming off that last attack from Gonzalez.

Potku manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Gonzalez on his heels. He'll look to pass Gonzalez's guard now, I'm sure.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Potku tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Gonzalez paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Gonzalez ducks low and lands a nice hook to the body of his opponent.

Potku swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target.
Despite the aggression on Gonzalez's face he doesn't fully commit to the counter.
Gonzalez moves his head to the side to avoid a jab but walks straight into a cross.
Potku will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Kurki Potku. That's going to take a lot out of him.

The fighters circling - Potku throws out the jab but it was never going to land.
Potku works his jab well there, keeping his opponent at a distance.

Gonzalez bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes.
A countering left hand to the body from Gonzalez misses.
Gonzalez has a nice red mark on his side after a thudding body kick by Potku.
A jab from Gonzalez finds it's way through Potku's defenses.
The sound of bone on bone echoes around the arena as Potku checks a leg kick.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Potku tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Gonzalez manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
Potku has his hands up protecting his head but a hook from Gonzalez finds it's way round the side to connect with Potku's head.
Gonzalez jabs. That one connects to the head of his opponent.

and Gonzalez counters with a big left hand that crumples Potku! He was out before he hit the floor! Brutal knockout!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:44 of round 3, we have a winner by way of KO (Punch). Shaun Gonzalez!
An out of breath Shaun Gonzalez thanked his loyal fans in his post fight interview, giving them credit for his success over the course of his career.
