PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Minatay Mibangon (ranked 23910 p4p, 23928 weight class) and Walay Buut (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 37 - 53 - 9, fighting out of Las Vegas, Minatay Mibangon!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 52 - 44 - 4, fighting out of Las Vegas, Walay Buut!
The judges for this bout are Frank Dennis, Daniel Franklin and George Francis.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
We've got one fighter who appears to only be looking to counter and the other not looking particularly aggressive either, so we could be in for a dull fight.
Mibangon tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Buut swivels and escapes.
Buut looks like he wanted to counter with a high kick but didn't throw it.

Buut shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Mibangon is trying to defend but Buut finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.
Buut with a momentary lay and pray from half guard.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Mibangon wants to control but Buut is keeping busy and won't allow it.

Buut controlling the action here.
Buut drops an elbow to the side of Mibangon's head.
Mibangon is trying to control but can't.
The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.
Well, if Buut is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Buut gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.
Buut has his hands on Mibangon's head, controlling the position.
Buut is continuing to stall.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Mibangon passes into half guard.
Buut keeping control of the leg, stopping his opponent passing to mount.
Mibangon wants to pass to mount but Buut is defending the position.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Buut keeps control of the position for the meantime.
Buut's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Buut shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Minatay Mibangon will probably get the nod.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!

Buut fails with the takedown.

Buut fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Mibangon to the ground. Buut is now in Mibangon's guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Buut is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.
Buut wants to control from the top but Mibangon keeps moving.

Buut sitting in guard, not really doing much.
Mibangon looking for a sweep. Not yet Mibangon, not yet.
Mibangon controls Buut momentarily but Buut frees himself.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Buut is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.
Mibangon controlling the position.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up.

Mibangon shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Mibangon was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!
Buut is looking to reverse the position.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Mibangon landing strikes.
Buut is looking to regain half guard here but Mibangon keeps moving and retains side control.
Buut is trying to control Mibangon's posture but Mibangon avoids it.
Buut is holding Mibangon down, trying to stall.
Mibangon takes a little break here. Buut wants to take advantage but he is being controlled well.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Mibangon working away diligently from side control. Landing strikes effectively there - that will score him some points on the judges scorecards.
Buut is trying to control Mibangon's posture but Mibangon avoids it.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Buut misses with a takedown attempt
and Mibangon counters with a leg kick.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Minatay Mibangon dominated that second round.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! This is the final round!

Buut is looking to regain half guard here but Mibangon keeps moving and retains side control.

Mibangon remains in side control and seems content to stay there. It's a versatile position from which he can work both strikes and submissions, whilst maintaining that control, so maybe he'll sit here for a while.
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Buut is trying to control Mibangon's posture but Mibangon avoids it.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

Mibangon drives through with a takedown into guard.
Mibangon controls the pace of the fight for a moment.
Buut trying to strike from the bottom but really, it's not the best position to be doing that from!

Buut is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Mibangon passes Buut's left leg - he's now in half guard.
Buut trying to control but Mibangon postures up.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

Walay Buut has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Minatay Mibangon is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.

Buut has his foot on Mibangon's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Mibangon works his way back into a safe position though.

Well Mibangon has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
