PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Carl Svensson (ranked 4129 p4p, 5716 weight class) and Kash Klay (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both these guys have solid standup skills and neither is particularly fantastic on the ground, so let's hope for a nice standup war!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Carl Svensson!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Kash Klay!
The judges for this bout are Roosa Järviläinen, Arvi Lind and Anni Minnemäki.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Svensson steps to the side to avoid the strikes from Klay.
Svensson drops down looking for a counter takedown but Klay sprawls and moves away.
Klay throws a jab when Svensson was well out of range.

Svensson fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Klay, pushing him back against the cage.

Svensson jumps guard.
Svensson pulls Klay in close to his closed guard and prevents Klay from doing any damage or advancing position.

Svensson is scooting his butt against the cage and has managed to get back to his feet. Klay presses him back against the cage, presumably looking to take the fight back to the mat.
Svensson wants to take the fight to the mat but Klay manages to get underhooks and keep the fight in the clinch.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Klay blocks a knee to the body. He'll have a nicely bruised forearm in the morning.
Svensson is working for takedown but Klay is calmly controlling the position for now.

Svensson pulls guard.
Svensson tries to strike from the bottom.

Svensson is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Klay defends well.

Svensson working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Klay doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Klay manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
Klay wants to stand and escape but instead Svensson has hit a sweep and he's now on top in guard.

Klay wants to get back to his feet but Svensson is in a dominant position and won't allow it.
Svensson is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Klay wants to get back to his feet but he's too absorbed in his own little project and Svensson manages to pass to side control.
Klay is trying to stand.
Well, if Svensson is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.

Svensson will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

Klay is in a horrible position here, under a barrage of strikes, he's managing to avoid any damage.

Svensson lands a couple of nice shots there from mount.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Svensson stands up from the dominant position. He obviously fancies his chances standing.
Klay throws the left hand but Svensson avoids the punch easily.
It looked like Svensson was looking amped, ready to throw a big counter but didn't commit.
Svensson shoots in but Klay avoids the takedown attempt easily.
Klay swings away with a counter right hand but no contact made.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Carl Svensson. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Klay throws a wild body kick that Svensson sees coming a mile off.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Svensson pushes Klay up against the cage in a clinch.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin!

Svensson wings a very wild body shot but it does the job and lands to the midsection.
Klay clobbers Svensson with an overhand right that has the crowd gasping. That made a horrendous noise.
Klay throws a leg kick but Svensson checks it.

Klay tries to keep at a distance but Svensson has taken the fight into the clinch.
Klay has had enough of the clinch but Svensson keeps him there for the moment.
Klay can't break the clinch.

Klay breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Svensson fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Klay avoids it really well and circles away.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Klay cracks a nice hook into Svensson's ribs.
Svensson really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

Svensson uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Klay.
Klay lands a head shot.
Svensson ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face.
Svensson is trying to close the distance and clinch up, after that failed offence from Klay.
Klay looks to land a right hand but Svensson moved out of range.
Klay shapes like he's going to throw a leg kick but settles back down.
Svensson throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Klay's waist but Klay gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Svensson off to one side.
Svensson shoots in for a takedown but Klay shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.

Svensson walks straight into a jab right on the nose. That one stung - he's blinking and trying to clear his head.

Svensson escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Klay gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Klay wants to get up but he can't break Svensson's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.
Svensson pulls Klay in close to his closed guard and prevents Klay from doing any damage or advancing position.
Svensson's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.

The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Klay wants to stand but Svensson is controlling his posture from full guard.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Svensson goes for a double leg but Klay avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Klay continues to drive forward.
Klay wants to break free. God knows he wants to breaaaak freeee.

A frustrated look appears on Klay's face as he tries to break the clinch.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Svensson looking to control the pace of the fight rather than finish it.
Klay wants to get up but he can't break Svensson's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.

Kash Klay showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's time! Svensson's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. This is the final round!

The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up.
The ground and pound from Svensson seems to be hitting the mat more than his opponent.
Svensson is pausing for a moment. What's he doing? It looks like he's clearing his nose. Oh dude! He's shot a load of snot all down Klay's shoulder. That is not cool.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
Klay swings away with a leg kick that misses.

Klay stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Klay wants it to stay on the feet.

Klay looks to land a right hand but Svensson moved out of range.
Klay rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Svensson moves out of range and avoids them all easily.

Svensson shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Klay as he avoids it easily.

Klay throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Svensson sees it coming and avoids it easily.

Klay swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target.
Klay misses with a straight left.

Svensson keeps the fight in the clinch, despite Klay's efforts to push away.
Klay is looking to break free of the clinch but Svensson has double underhooks.

Carl Svensson showed his dominance in that final round.
