PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Bo Duran (ranked 113 p4p, 652 weight class) and Rudi Kardi (ranked 19 p4p, 85 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 13 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Bo Duran!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 10 - 8 - 2, fighting out of London, Rudi Kardi!
The judges for this bout are George Francis, Chris Downing and Gwen Towbar.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Kardi shoots for a double leg takedown but Duran sprawls well. He's pushed Kardi's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
Duran tries to counter by clinching up but Kardi breaks away and moves out of range.
Duran misses the jab.
Kardi fails with the takedown.
Kardi with a lazy takedown attempt
and Duran counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.

It looks like Rudi Kardi has been cut.
Bo Duran has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Rudi Kardi.
Kardi shoots in for a double leg but Duran sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Kardi misses with a takedown attempt
and Duran connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.
Nice body punch from Duran.
Kardi dives in and grabs Duran's left leg, looking for a takedown. Duran pushes down on Kardi's head and hops out.
It looked like Duran wanted to counter with a hook but didn't fully commit.
We've been told by Duran's head coaches at FIGHT FOUNDERS (CA) that he's been working on his takedown defense in preparation for this fight.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Kardi fails with the takedown.
Kardi fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
Duran is looking to counter with a shot to the body.
Kardi shoots in but doesn't get the takedown

and Duran counters with a crisp right hand that drops Kardi! Duran lets Kardi back up to his feet, looking for a finish!
Duran stuffs the takedown attempt from Kardi. Kardi gets slowly back to his feet.
Duran throws a body kick but he was well out of range there.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Kardi shoots in but Duran avoids the takedown attempt easily.
Both fighters are looking to counter, which isn't making for the most exciting fight in the world.
Kardi fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Kardi has his takedown stuffed
and Duran counters with a straight right hand.

That has opened up Rudi Kardi's cut even more.
Horrible takedown attempt by Kardi or perhaps it was just good defense by Duran, which made it look bad.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Kardi shoots in and gets a takedown into Duran's guard.

Kardi drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Duran dives on top into guard.


Kardi looking for submissions from the bottom but instead Duran passes into side control.
Kardi tries to strike from the bottom but misses.
Kardi tries to bench press Duran off him but Duran keeps the position.
Duran taking a breather here.
Kardi wings away with a couple of strikes but they don't land.
Kardi manages to land a sweep and he's now on top! Lovely Jiu Jitsu!

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Kardi is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.
Kardi missing with some ground and pound from the half guard.

Kardi is trying to work for a kimura but Duran is defending well.

Kardi is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Duran doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Kardi.
Kardi wants to free his trapped foot but Duran is holding on for dear life with his legs.
Duran controlling the position for now.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Bo Duran dominated that round.
The cut man is working on Rudi Kardi's cut.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.

Duran lands with a nice body kick.

Duran drops Kardi with a hook right on the temple. He thinks about going to the ground but Kardi looks back up at him and smiles so Duran waves him back to his feet - he obviously thinks he can knock him out after that shot landed.

Kardi is rocked!
Duran fakes a right and follows up with a big left that drops Kardi to one knee - oooooh, he's wobbly! Kardi looks to clinch but Duran throws him off and pummels him into the canvas! Kardi taps out under the strikes! The fight is over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:27 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Strikes). Bo Duran!
A relieved looking Bo Duran thanked the fans for their support and gave the usual line about them being amazing. They seemed to believe that he actually meant it.
