PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Higanti Libat (ranked 23667 p4p, 23895 weight class) and Wala Sapi (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). On his way into the cage it seems that Higanti Libat has been attacked by a crazed fan! It looks like it might have been the just bleed guy! Luckily Higanti Libat seems to be OK! I thought that lunatic was in prison!?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 41 - 59 - 4, fighting out of Las Vegas, Higanti Libat!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 48 - 48 - 9, fighting out of Las Vegas, Wala Sapi!
The judges for this bout are Chris Downing, Robert Twigg and Cecil Peabody.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
We've got one fighter who appears to only be looking to counter and the other not looking particularly aggressive either, so we could be in for a dull fight.

Libat looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.
Sapi is trying to maintain the position but Libat is very close to passing his half guard.
Libat not doing much here.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Libat seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Sapi for as long as he can get away with.
The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.
Sapi wants to control but Libat is keeping busy.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Libat shoots in for a takedown but Sapi shows good takedown defense.
Libat will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
Sapi shoots in and drives through. Libat sprawls well.
Libat jinks towards his opponent looking like he wants to counter with a mid kick but doesn't commit.
Libat tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Sapi swivels and escapes.
And Sapi responds with a good body kick, but Libat manages to step out the way in time.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Higanti Libat. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Sapi is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Libat's half guard.

Libat is looking to control Sapi's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Libat avoid being mounted?
Sapi controlling the pace.
Libat trying to hold on to Sapi's head to control him but Sapi postures up.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Sapi is taking a breather. Libat says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.
Libat is looking to improve his position.
Sapi is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Libat doesn't succeed with the takedown
and Sapi makes the exchange count by landing a cracking kick to the body. Libat really felt that one!
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Wala Sapi dominated that round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.

Sapi thuds a mid kick into his opponent's body. That will wear on Libat if he has to take too many more of those.
Libat misses with a takedown attempt - Sapi sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
Libat displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Sapi.
And Libat counters with a quick kick to the body but Sapi blocks it.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Sapi fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Libat avoids it really well and circles away.
Libat thinks about countering with a body kick.

Libat tries to score a power double leg takedown but Sapi sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Libat somewhat.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Libat leaves Sapi with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Libat appears to be looking for a counter takedown.
Higanti Libat has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Wala Sapi.
Libat closes this distance looking for a takedown but Sapi circles away.
Sapi thinks about the counter body kick.
Sapi misses with a body shot.
Nice takedown defense from Sapi. No joy for Libat on that attempt.

Sapi is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Libat's half guard.

Sapi thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.
Sapi throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.

Sapi has been the more effective fighter overall so far.

Wala Sapi showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin! This is the final round!

Sapi keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
Sapi replies with a solid counter kick to the body but Libat blocks it well.
Sapi defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Libat.
Libat misses with a takedown attempt - Sapi sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Sapi has Libat pulled in close to control his posture.
Libat engaging in some classic timewasting tactics.
Sapi is controlling Libat's posture.
Libat sitting in guard, not really doing much.

Sapi closes this distance looking for a takedown but Libat circles away.
Libat shoots and misses

and Sapi decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Libat's guard.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Libat is on top in guard.

Libat stays in close to Sapi's body and controls the position.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Sapi has Libat pulled in close to control his posture.
Sapi looking to hit a scissor sweep but Libat is one step ahead there.
Higanti Libat has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Wala Sapi is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.
Sapi seems keen to control rather than go for a submission, at least for now.

And that's the end of the fight!
That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Higanti Libat.
Well Sapi has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
