PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Tibi Jones (ranked 4083 p4p, 4207 weight class) and Jay Larry (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Jones comes to the cage accompanied by Meet the Grahams - Kendrick Lamar. We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Tibi Jones!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Jay Larry!
The judges for this bout are Luis Engracia, Thiago Cunha and Leandro Rodrigues.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Jones wants to clinch.

Larry closes the distance and pushes Jones back into the cage.
Jones tries to pull guard but Larry won't allow it.
Jones tries for a takedown. No joy.

Larry pulls guard successfully.
Jones throws a big elbow that misses.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Larry wants to sweep but no luck.
Jones trying to control the position from guard on top but Larry is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Jones controls from within his opponent's guard.

Jones trying to stand up but can't free himself from Larry's guard.
Larry looking to control.
Jones prevents Larry from getting back to his feet.
Larry wants to improve his position but instead Jones has moved into half guard.
Jones is looking to stall here but Larry recovers full guard.
Larry seems keen to control rather than go for a submission, at least for now.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Jones controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.

Jones misses the jab.
Larry now looks to counter with a shot at the body.
Jones jabbing away but nothing is landing.
Larry shoots in looking for a takedown but Jones manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Larry's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
The fight stays on the outside here - Jones looks like he's thinking about clinching though.

Larry gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here.
Jones jumps guard but Larry stands there with Jones around his waist. Jones gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.

Larry has Jones pressed up against the cage. He's trying to work for a single leg takedown. Larry pulls back from the cage and twists to the side, sending Jones tumbling to the mat - Larry dives into Jones's guard.

Jones has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Larry can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.

Larry misses with a wild combination.
Larry closes the distance and clinches up with Jones, looking for a takedown. Larry pushes Jones against the cage but Jones circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.

Jones gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily

and Larry counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
Jones thows some rabbit punches from the bottom but they don't do any damage.

Larry working in close now, lands a nice elbow to the side of Jones's head.

Jones knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Larry on the ground.

Jones on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Jones tries to get out of the position.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
A shot to the liver by Larry. Beautiful body shot.
Jones doesn't manage to clinch there - Larry circles away.

Jones shoots in and bounces Larry off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.

Larry uses the cage to get back to his feet.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Jones shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Larry napping and manages to drive through into side control!

Larry is trying to get back to half guard. He's pushing on Jones's leg. He's managed it. Nice work.
Larry pushes Jones off looking to stand but Jones dives back in and keeps control.

Jones is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Larry sees it coming and defends easily.
Jay Larry has got the better of the ground game so far.

Larry makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Larry.
Jones won't allow Larry to sweep him here.
Larry wants to stand up but Jones is controlling him.
Jones stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Larry swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Jones wants to control from the top but Larry keeps moving.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.

Larry shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Larry showed some decent athleticism there.
Larry landing with strikes to the body and head, softening up his opponent.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Larry wants to control but Jones is keeping him busy.

Larry is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Jay Larry showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! Let's hear some noise people - this is the final round!

Jones changes levels looking for a counter takedown but doesn't commit.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.

Larry shoots for a takedown but Jones saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
Jones leaves Larry with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Larry takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

Jones has Larry pulled in close to control his posture.

Jones escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Larry gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Larry stays in close to Jones's body and controls the position.
Jones might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.

Larry advances position into side control!
Larry has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Jones wants to control but Larry postures up.
Larry lands a nice forearm strike.

Larry working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.
Larry tries to land with some ground and pound but misses.

Larry trying to control the action but Jones is working from the bottom.

Larry is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Jones is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Jones can't do much from the bottom here.
Jones gets one leg under and gets the fight to half guard.
Larry seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.

Larry is trying to get back to his feet now but his leg is trapped.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.

I would just about give that final round to Jay Larry.
I've got Larry winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
