PBP Commentary |
Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Adrian Ares (ranked 25368 p4p, 3588 weight class) and Marc Horton (ranked 467 p4p, 321 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Ares throws a lazy uppercut
and Horton counters with a takedown into side control! That could mean trouble for Ares! The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Check out the look on Horton's face as he threw that strike - that's one determined fighter!
Horton is maintaining the dominant position - no doubt Ares will start to get frustrated soon if he's not already. You can see the frustration on Ares's face, being in this tough position on the bottom. Horton remains in side control and seems content to stay there. It's a versatile position from which he can work both strikes and submissions, whilst maintaining that control, so maybe he'll sit here for a while. Horton lands a decent elbow from side control. Horton happy to just control the position for now. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Ares tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Horton wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control. Horton scores with a couple of short elbows.
That's one minute gone in the round. Horton taking a breather here. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Let's hope that Horton has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight. Horton working the head and body with strikes. Horton in side control, just content to control the action for now. Ares tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Horton wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control. Horton is working to tighten his grip on Ares's neck. He's isolated an arm and is working for an arm triangle. Ares has recognised the danger and is trying to turn with the submission but Horton is really squeezing tight and eventually Ares passes out! Horton breaks the hold and jumps onto the cage to celebrate! Submission of the night, I'd say!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:59 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Arm Triangle). Marc Horton!
