PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Storm Father (ranked 5059 p4p, 4951 weight class) and Clark Zapata (ranked 0 p4p, 366 weight class). Zapata is bouncing up and down as he enters the arena, backed by Alab ng Puso. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Storm Father!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Clark Zapata!
The judges for this bout are Damien Edna, John Mangel and Topper Green.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Zapata walks into a jab.
Father tries to clinch but Zapata moves out of range.
It seemed like Zapata was going to counter with the hook but didn't fully commit to it.
Zapata throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Father tries to clinch up but Zapata circles away and keeps his distance.
A combination from Father does no damage.
Clark Zapata seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Father moves forwards but Zapata connects with a nice, crisp jab.

Zapata clinches up with Father and pushes him back against the cage.
Zapata is trying to force a seperation but Father has the dominant position.
Father is working for a takedown up against the cage. He can't get it on this occasion though.
Father lands a right hand.
Father lands a shoulder strike.

Zapata pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.

Zapata decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Zapata slips a nice elbow through Father's hands, connecting with Father's forehead.
Zapata drops an elbow to the side of Father's head.
Father has hold of Zapata's hands but Zapata slips his arm to the side and lands an elbow.
Zapata looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Father with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.
Ground and pound from Zapata.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Zapata lands strikes from half guard.
Zapata really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Father. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Father has managed to escape just enough to sneak back to his feet but Zapata is on him like a limpet, forcing Father back against the cage.
Father scores with a shoulder strike.
Father misses with a knee strike.
Zapata wants to break the clinch but can't.
Father misses with a short punch on the inside.
Father keeps the fight in the clinch, despite Zapata's efforts to push away.

Zapata manages to break the clinch.
Father tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Zapata paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Father takes a hook to the side of the head. I wonder if that's got his ears ringing.
Zapata tries to clinch up but Father circles away and keeps his distance.

Zapata instigates a clinch.
Zapata is trying to break free.
A short uppercut from Father.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Zapata is looking to break free of the clinch but Father has double underhooks.
Zapata has had enough of the clinch but Father keeps him there for the moment.
Zapata wants to break the clinch but can't.
A head punch on the inside from Father fails to land.

Zapata escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Zapata tries to clinch up.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Zapata darts in and clinches Father up against the cage.
Zapata's head jolts backwards as he takes an uppercut right on the button!
Father keeps the fight in the clinch, despite Zapata's efforts to push away.
Zapata has Father pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Father manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing.
Zapata looks winded!
A quick uppercut on the inside from Father.
Father lands a right uppercut that snaps the head of Zapata backwards.
Father misses with some punches.

Zapata's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Zapata lunges in with an uppercut that skims his opponent's chin.
Zapata throws a left and a right that both miss
and Father counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Father wants to clinch.
Zapata fails in his attempt to clinch.
A counter left hand to the body from Father misses its target.
Some wild striking there from Father.
Father wants to clinch.
Zapata shoots and misses
and Father counters with a lovely straight right hand!
Father doesn't manage to clinch there - Zapata circles away.
Zapata shoots for a double leg takedown but Father sprawls well. He's pushed Zapata's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
Father is looking to counter the offense by Zapata and move into the clinch.
Storm Father has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Clark Zapata.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Father lunges in with an uppercut that skims his opponent's chin.
Father feints a jab promting Zapata to slip. Father then demonstrates his capabilities by jabbing again. Zapata slips again and ducks right into an uppercut.
Zapata uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Father.
Storm Father is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
A slapping leg kick lands for Zapata.
Zapata has a takedown stuffed.
As Zapata tries to get set, Father tries to push him back and clinch up but Zapata manages to avoid the attempt.
Zapata misses with a combination
letting Father counter with a right hand.
Father tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Zapata paws at him with a jab and circles away.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Zapata throws a nice head kick!
Father looks to land a combination but Zapata avoids it well.
Father stuffs the takedown attempt from Zapata. Zapata gets slowly back to his feet.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Storm Father dominated that round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


Father rushes Zapata and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.
Zapata is trying to push Father away but Father has him pressed against the cage, so he's going nowhere.

Zapata escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Zapata fails with the takedown.
Storm Father is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Zapata shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Father as he jumps to the side.
Zapata shoots in but doesn't get the takedown

and Father counters with a crisp one two that drops Zapata! Father thinks about following him to the mat for a moment but instead steps back and waves Zapata to his feet! Zapata is in big trouble!

Zapata is rocked!
Storm Father has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Clark Zapata.
Zapata is breathing heavily.
Jab, cross, leg kick. Nice combination by Zapata!
Zapata is still on wobbly legs! Can Father finish him?
No luck with that takedown attempt from Zapata.

Father forces Zapata back against the cage and clinches.
Father lands with a short punch from the clinch.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Father pushes Zapata against the cage. Father is working some dirty boxing. Father pushes off with a quick right hook! Zapata goes down! Zapata tries to stand but stumbles back to his kness! Father moves in to finish and the ref steps in to prevent any more damage!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:55 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Storm Father!
Storm Father thanked the fans post fight for their support.
Clark Zapata was interviewed post fight and said 'I will learn from this.'.
