Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Baariq Taïa (ranked 1237 p4p, 1029 weight class) and Svend Thorsby (ranked 40 p4p, 36 weight class). Baariq Taïa could well score a knockout today. He has the power to get to Svend Thorsby's chin.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 9 - 3 - 0, fighting out of London, Baariq Taïa!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 25 - 21 - 1, fighting out of Helsinki, Svend Thorsby!
The judges for this bout are James Ackerman, Colin Fotheringham and Paul Tew.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Taïa wants to clinch.
It seemed like Thorsby was going to counter with the hook but didn't fully commit to it.
Taïa shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Thorsby sprawls well. Thorsby wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Taïa gets slowly back to his feet.
Baariq Taïa seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Thorsby's jab looks to have found its range, popping Taïa under the eye.
It looks like Baariq Taïa has been cut.
Thorsby swings wildly with a couple of big hooks
and Thorsby takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.
Nice sprawl there from Thorsby as Taïa shoots in.
Taïa walks into a stiff left hand from Thorsby.
No joy there for Taïa, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Thorsby stuns Taïa with a nice body shot, before stepping back out of range.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Taïa fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Baariq Taïa. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Boom, another hit is landed. "You're gunna get knocked out" taunts Taïa, as that shot connected.
Taïa fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Thorsby, pushing him back against the cage.
Thorsby swings wildly with an uppercut but Taïa uses good head movement to avoid it.
Taïa drops to a knee looking for a takedown but Thorsby gets the underhooks and prevents it.
Taïa has been working on his balance at Mentor Gym, so perhaps that has help him stuff some of the takedown attempts by Thorsby.
Taïa has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Thorsby avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.
Thorsby escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Thorsby throws a nice inside leg kick.
Thorsby connects with a looping left hand that seems like it dazed Taïa momentarily.
A big left from Thorsby misses.
Taïa closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Thorsby to the mat! Thorsby manages to get full guard.
Thorsby pushes Taïa off for just long enough to get back to his feet. Very athletic spring there.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Taïa throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Thorsby was covering up waiting for the punch and Taïa finishes the takedown easily into guard.

Taïa makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard.
Thorsby looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.

Thorsby escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Taïa gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Taïa might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.

Taïa stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Thorsby swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Taïa postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Taïa accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Thorsby wants to sweep but no luck.
Thorsby is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
Taïa loads up on a big left hand. Thorsby felt that one! He's just covering up now, not defending himself intelligently - Taïa looks towards the ref and unloads with 3 more big shots and the ref has no choice but to stop the fight! Thorsby can't hide his disappointment, as Taïa celebrates the victory.
Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:44 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Baariq Taïa!
