And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Reino Kovis!
The judges for this bout are Johanna Lukiainen, Tarja Halkonen and Matti Vanhoillinen.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Sparks leaves Kovis with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Sparks tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Kovis was well out of range. Poor timing from Sparks.
Kovis on the wrong end of a vicious looking body shot.
Kovis swats away the attempt to clinch by Sparks.
Sparks misses with a body shot.
Kovis pivots as if he's going to throw a leg kick but stops half way.
Kovis uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Sparks.

Kovis scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice.
Sparks throws a couple of punches but he's in a bad position and they don't land.
Kovis trying to control the position but Sparks is working away.
Sparks can't do much from the bottom here.
Kovis tries to move to mount but Sparks blocks the move with his legs.
Sparks is trying to control Kovis's posture but Kovis avoids it.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Sparks is sneaking out the side here. He's bucked Kovis off and has taken his back!

A lull in the action here.
The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring.

Sparks is breathing heavily.

Sparks tries to get the hooks in deep but Kovis pushed the leg off.
Kovis covering up well under a barage of strikes.
Sparks has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Sparks tightening his grip on Kovis, looking for the choke.
Kovis breaks Sparks's hooks off and manages to turn into his guard.

Kovis got a little sloppy there for a moment and Sparks has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Kovis has managed to get both his arms back between Sparks's legs - danger averted.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Kovis pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Sparks is keeping the position for now.
Sparks thows some rabbit punches from the bottom but they don't do any damage.
Kovis pushes down on Sparks's leg and manages to get into half guard.

Kovis moves into side control, trying to work for a kimura. That looks painful! Will he finish!!?? No, Sparks has worked his arm free - good work by Sparks!
Sparks is looking for a sweep.
Sparks dodges the ground and pound from Kovis.
Sparks managing to avoid any damage from the strikes thrown by Kovis.
Sparks tries to get back to half guard but can't.

Kovis thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.
Sparks can't do much from the bottom here.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

Kovis is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Sparks is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Sparks throws a series of punches but Kovis avoids them all with ease.
Kovis slips under a jab.
Kovis dodges the punch combination from Sparks.
Kovis swats away the attempt to clinch by Sparks.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Sparks throws a one two combo.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Tony Sparks dominated that round.
That's time! Sparks's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.


Sparks defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Kovis.
Sparks lands a left and a right that sends Kovis crashing to the canvas! Sparks dives into mount looking to finish!


Kovis is rocked!


It looks like Reino Kovis has been cut.
Sparks lands a big shot to the head and Kovis winces in pain. He's tapped out due to strikes!
