Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Koen Bauweraerts (ranked 515 p4p, 1459 weight class) and Dakota Reis (ranked 57 p4p, 150 weight class). Bauweraerts comes to the cage accompanied by Dj Coone - Eating Donuts. Reis comes into a darkened arena with his song building. Cree Prayer Song - Young Spirit kicks in, the lights come on and the crowd goes wild! What a showman! Koen Bauweraerts had a look across the cage there at his opponent. He definitely means business

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the lightweight championship of the world! Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of 8 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Koen Bauweraerts! And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of 7 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Dakota Reis! The judges for this bout are Steve Erwin, Ben Watson and Bruno Hogan.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! We've got one fighter who appears to only be looking to counter and the other not looking particularly aggressive either, so we could be in for a dull fight. Bauweraerts shoots in for a takedown but Reis shows good takedown defense. Reis looks like he wants to counter punch here. Reis rushes in with a sloppy looking punch
and Bauweraerts counters with a right hand to the body. Decent striking displayed by Bauweraerts there. Bauweraerts throws an ugly left hook that misses
and Reis counters with an inside leg kick. Reis wings a very wild body shot but it does the job and lands to the midsection. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Bauweraerts misses with an uppercut.
That's one minute gone in the round. Reis misses the body punch and Bauweraerts counters with a straight right hand. A big left from Reis misses. Bauweraerts misses with a straight left. Reis doesn't fully commit to the body shot counter. Reis has been spending a lot of time sparring his boxing in the run up to the fight, trying to sharpen up those hands and look for a knockout. Bauweraerts shoots in looking for a takedown but Reis manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Bauweraerts's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away. Bauweraerts dips to his left and cracks Reis with an uppercut! Reis throws a right hand that misses

Reis is clearly trying to counter these attacks from Bauweraerts with a body shot. Reis thows a leg kick but Bauweraerts checks it and Bauweraerts counters with a nice double leg into half guard. Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Bauweraerts throwing shots but Reis is blocking nicely. The referee calls for the fighters to work.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Bauweraerts not throwing his punches with enough precision this time.

Bauweraerts is keen to just control but Reis is a slippery customer. Bauweraerts not landing any meaningful shots this time. Bauweraerts is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen. Bauweraerts is stalling here. Reis is in no mood to hang around though. He's locked up a kimura from the bottom! Bauweraerts seems to be keeping calm but he's forced to roll out of the hold and Reis has ended up in side control on the top. Nice work. Bauweraerts is looking to slip a leg under and get half guard but Reis is one step ahead and moves to full mount!

Bauweraerts is in a tricky position but he's been working on his transitions down at Ground Zero Workout Gym, so we'll see if he gets out of it. Reis tries to control but Bauweraerts wriggling away. Bauweraerts is looking to improve his position but Reis isn't that keen on the idea. Reis avoids the attempt from Bauweraerts to control. The crowd thankful this round is nearly over. Reis sitting in mount, just looking to control for the moment. Bauweraerts tries to get back to half guard but can't. And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Reis lands a beauty of a right hand that gets the crowd cheering.

Reis moves away from the strike by Bauweraerts. Reis scores with a jab to the body. Reis misses with a shot to the body and Bauweraerts counters with a nice uppercut.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Good leg kick by Reis. Reis lands a kick to the ribs of his opponent. Nice work there - in and out in a flash.
Bauweraerts slips a jab and a cross from Reis.
A little feinted left hand from Bauweraerts on the counter but he doesn't commit to it. Both fighters are looking to counter, which isn't making for the most exciting fight in the world. Bauweraerts throws out a token jab with nothing on it. Sloppy strikes from Bauweraerts. Those never looked like landing.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Bauweraerts throws a looping overhand right but Reis ducks down to avoid it. Reis misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
Boom, another hit is landed. "You're gunna get knocked out" taunts Bauweraerts, as that shot connected.
Reis throws a lazy head kick and Bauweraerts cracks him with a counter punch right on the button. Bauweraerts fails with a takedown attempt from distance. Reis misses with a leg kick letting Bauweraerts counter with a right hand.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Bauweraerts swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target. Bauweraerts throws an ugly left hook that misses
and Reis counters with a straight right hand. Bauweraerts moves out of range of the strikes. Bauweraerts is looking to counter with a shot to the body. Reis pivots, looking for a leg kick but Bauweraerts is out of range and Reis settles back down. The crowd thankful this round is nearly over. Reis throws a predictable looking body shot
and Bauweraerts counters with a lovely straight right hand! And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.
Dakota Reis showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards. The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! Bauweraerts throws an ugly left hook that misses
and Reis counters with a good low kick that Bauweraerts was not able to check. Reis tries a switch kick but it misses it's target. Bauweraerts changes levels looking for a counter takedown but doesn't commit. Bauweraerts throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Reis was covering up waiting for the punch and Bauweraerts finishes the takedown easily into guard. Reis working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Bauweraerts doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Bauweraerts manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Bauweraerts wants to control from the top but Reis keeps moving.
That's one minute gone in the round. Reis utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound. Bauweraerts content to stall in guard here. Bauweraerts trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat. Bauweraerts working from the guard for now, landing some ground and pound. Bauweraerts content to strike from guard, landing some decent shots. Bauweraerts throws an elbow that misses. Reis uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Bauweraerts's guard. Nice move by Reis! Bauweraerts wants to sweep here but Reis controlling him for the moment.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Reis stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Bauweraerts swivels though and keeps the full guard. Bauweraerts tries to land a sweep but no joy. Reis controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling. Bauweraerts is trying to keep Reis in close.
Bauweraerts wants to sweep but no luck. Koen Bauweraerts overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Reis wants to pass the guard but Bauweraerts is keeping the position. Reis looking to control the position here, rather than advance. Bauweraerts bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Reis's guard.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily. Bauweraerts looking to pass the guard. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Reis looking to try and escape his hips here, looking for a submission. It looks like he's going for a triangle but Bauweraerts is defending well. Reis quickly switches to an armbar and extends the arm! Bauweraerts has no choice but to tap, to a very quick submission! Wow, that was lightning fast! Reis celebrates on the cage, with the crowd.
Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:18 of round 3, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Dakota Reis! Dakota Reis is the new lightweight champion! After winning the bout, Dakota Reis thanked all his fans and promised he'd do even better in his next fight. The crowd seemed to love his humility.
