PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Bob Rocket (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Matt Mylly (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Bob Rocket!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Matt Mylly!
The judges for this bout are Marco Blurström, Tarja Halkonen and Johanna Lukiainen.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Rocket tries to clinch up but Mylly circles away and keeps his distance.
The fight stays on the outside here - Rocket looks like he's thinking about clinching though.

Rocket shoots in for a takedown and gets it.
Mylly missing with punches from the bottom.
Mylly tries to roll over but Rocket keeps him under control.

Rocket wants to work for an arm triangle but Mylly is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Mylly trying to hold on to Rocket's head to control him but Rocket postures up.
Mylly might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Rocket kaven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.

Mylly is trying to get back to full guard.
Rocket will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
Mylly has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Rocket is working away from the top position though.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Mylly can do anything to dispel that myth.
Mylly is looking to improve his position.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.
Both fighters circling a little - Rocket finishes the exchange with a kick to the body.

Rocket rushes Mylly and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.
Rocket stalling here - the referee won't stand for too much of that.

Rocket breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.

Mylly gets caught flat footed, as Rocket shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.
Rocket throwing strikes from guard but Mylly blocks nicely.
Mylly looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
Rocket tries to stand but Mylly is controlling from the bottom.
Mylly wants to sweep but no luck.
Mylly pulls Rocket in close to prevent any damage.

Mylly tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Mylly manages to land a sweep and now he's in mount on top!

Mylly working to secure an arm triangle but it's not happening for him just yet.
Rocket is breathing heavily.
Rocket is bucking up trying to escape but Mylly cracks him with another couple of good strikes.
Mylly avoids the attempt from Rocket to control.
Mylly landing shots from mount.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Mylly raining down shots from the mount!
Mylly controlling his opponent.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Mylly is still in mount, landing shots to his trapped opponent. Rocket can't stay in a position like this for much longer.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Bob Rocket dominated that round.
Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin!


Mylly misses with a takedown attempt - Rocket sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.

Mylly shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Rocket as he jumps to the side.
Mylly shoots in looking for a takedown. Rocket tries to sprawl out of it but Mylly keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Rocket manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Bob Rocket has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Matt Mylly.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Mylly is trying to work for a single leg takedown but Rocket pulls him back up using the underhooks.
Rocket connects with a nasty looking knee right to Mylly's face.
Mylly tries to pull guard but Rocket won't allow it.

Mylly wants to break free. God knows he wants to breaaaak freeee.
Rocket comes over the top with an elbow. That landed flush.
Mylly tries for a takedown but Rocket manages to get underhooks.
Mylly is breathing heavily.
Mylly's head jolts backwards as he takes an uppercut right on the button!
Rocket drops down for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Rocket has Mylly pushed against the cage.
Rocket is pressed up against the cage. Mylly has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Rocket down to the mat. Rocket avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.
Mylly takes a push kick to the midsection and stumbles backwards.
Mylly has a takedown stuffed.
A combination from Rocket does no damage.

Rocket is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Mylly is controlling him.
Mylly trying to control the position from guard on top but Rocket is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Mylly stops Rocket from standing up.

Mylly is working Rocket over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.

Rocket moves into the clinch successfully.

Mylly works for the underhooks and manages to get a trip takedown into guard.
Mylly seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.
Rocket trying to strike from the bottom but really, it's not the best position to be doing that from!

Mylly tries to free his leg and advance position but Rocket is retaining full guard.
Rocket is looking to stand up but Mylly isn't so interested in that idea.
Mylly is looking to work some ground and pound but Rocket has wrist control.
Mylly chips away with some ground and pound.
Mylly controls the pace of the fight for a moment.
Rocket keeping moving, preventing Mylly from controlling successfully.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.

Mylly drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Matt Mylly showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's time! Back to the action! This is the final round!


Mylly fails with a takedown attempt from distance.
Mylly looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
Rocket looks for a takedown but Mylly sprawls well.
Nice takedown defense from Mylly. No joy for Rocket on that attempt.
Mylly changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Rocket tries to avoid it but Mylly manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Rocket to the ground. Rocket escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Bob Rocket has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Matt Mylly.

Mylly tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Rocket smiles and moves away.

Mylly postures up and lands some nice ground and pound.
Mylly passes easily into side control. Nice work.
Rocket taking a bit of punishment here - Mylly scoring with strikes.
Mylly taking a breather here.
Mylly looks up at the clock and then as Rocket takes his cue and looks up at the clock too, Mylly smacks him right in the chops with a big elbow! How rude!

Rocket can't do much from the bottom here.
Mylly landing a few strikes.
Mylly cracks Rocket with a big elbow.
Mylly is chipping away with strikes.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Mylly works a knee to the body and follows up with a nice elbow to the head.
Rocket is trying to get back to half guard.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Mylly grinds an elbow into Rocket's temple.
Mylly landing with strikes to the head and body from side control.
Mylly scores with punches from side control.
Mylly lands a knee to the body and a forearm to the face.
Mylly taking a breather here.

And that's the end of the fight!
Matt Mylly comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Mylly has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
