This TWGC bout is 1 fifteen minute round in the light heavyweight division. Introducing today's competitors. In the red corner, competing out of London, with a TWGC record of 11 wins and 9 losses; Paddy Mcgillicutty! And in the blue corner, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, with a TWGC record of 20 wins and 19 losses; BrĂ¡ulio Etxeberria! The judges for this bout are Reed Andrews, Dean Styles and Jonathan Paton.
The official calls the fighters to the middle and the contest is under way. Mcgillicutty shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Etxeberria napping and manages to drive through into side control! Score +4 for clean takedown past guard: Mcgillicutty (4) vs (0) Etxeberria Etxeberria manages to work his way to half guard, despite Mcgillicutty's best efforts. Etxeberria has found himself in a tricky position here. He's been working his transitions in training so let's see if he can work his way out of it. Etxeberria is holding on to half guard well. Etxeberria wants to get back to full guard. Mcgillicutty wants to advance to full mount but Etxeberria doesn't think that's going to happen and regains full guard instead. Mcgillicutty is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Etxeberria is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him. Etxeberria can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Mcgillicutty is looking to escape. Etxeberria pushing the pace here, looking to move to his opponents back and work for a finish.

Mcgillicutty doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Etxeberria. Mcgillicutty is looking to control Etxeberria's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Mcgillicutty avoid being mounted? The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

It looks like Etxeberria might be adopting somewhat of a lay and pray gameplan here, which I'm sure won't go down too well with the paying fans in attendance... Or the ring announcers come to think of it. Mcgillicutty is positioning himself well to prevent Etxeberria advancing to mount. Mcgillicutty trying to control here.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake. Mcgillicutty is in a bad position, trying to hold on for dear life but he is really struggling to maintain any sort of control.

That's ten minutes gone in the round. Mcgillicutty gets full guard. Etxeberria is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position. Etxeberria trying to control but Mcgillicutty is working from the bottom. A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as Mcgillicutty holds on and takes a little breather. Mcgillicutty might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.

Mcgillicutty seems to have improved his submission grappling technique since last time we saw him. Let's see if he can pull off a submission. Etxeberria tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Mcgillicutty wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control. Etxeberria keeps trying to improve his position.

Mcgillicutty wants to lay and pray for a moment but Etxeberria keeps working. Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
And that's the end of the fight! Mcgillicutty takes the fight on points by 9 to 4. A very excited looking Paddy Mcgillicutty rambled incoherently for about 5 minutes post fight about how awesome he is. It was kinda funny for a while but then everyone got annoyed. |
