Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Andrew Blanchard (ranked 2525 p4p, 1480 weight class) and Duane Souza (ranked 233 p4p, 149 weight class). Duane Souza told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 2 - 0, fighting out of New York, Andrew Blanchard!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 6 - 3 - 0, fighting out of New York, Duane Souza!
The judges for this bout are Aleksandr Martynov, Illya Tyunina and Ivan Kurochkin.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Souza shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Blanchard but Blanchard pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Blanchard definitely looks more muscular than last time we saw him fight.
Blanchard is looking to clinch but Souza is avoiding it.
Souza closes this distance looking for a takedown but Blanchard circles away.
Souza shoots in looking for a takedown. Blanchard tries to sprawl out of it but Souza keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Blanchard manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
It looked like Blanchard wanted to counter with a hook but didn't fully commit.
Andrew Blanchard has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Duane Souza.
Souza tries to score a power double leg takedown but Blanchard sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Souza somewhat.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Souza distracts Blanchard with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm.

Souza stands up over Blanchard, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Souza postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head.
Souza won't allow Blanchard to get back to his feet.
Souza pushes down on Blanchard's leg and manages to get into half guard.
Souza prevents Blanchard from standing back up.
Souza has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
Souza lands a big shot. The thud that echoes around the arena is like music to the fans' ears.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Blanchard wants to get back to his feet.
Blanchard wants to stand back up but Souza manages to pass into side control.
Blanchard tries to escape but Souza is in control.

Blanchard is looking to get back to his feet here but Souza is keeping cool and he's managed to take Blanchard's back.
Blanchard is covering up but some of the strikes from Souza are getting through and doing damage.

Souza is punishing Blanchard with some ground and pound.
Blanchard takes a big shot to the side of the head.
Blanchard is trying to get back to his feet but he's not managed it yet.
Blanchard grimaces as he takes a shot to the body.

Can Blanchard hold on?! Souza is landing more strikes to his hapless foe.
Oh Blanchard is still in real trouble! Will he be able to recover?!!
Well, with Souza on his back, surely it's only a matter of time before Blanchard is tapping out... Can he escape the position?
Blanchard is trying to stand back up.
Blanchard seems to have got his legs back now.
Souza has Blanchard flattened out and is raining down punches.

The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Blanchard grimaces as he takes a shot to the body.
Souza is looking to control Blanchard but Blanchard is wriggling around and keeping busy.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Souza scores with punches from the back.
Souza lands strikes from the back and Blanchard isn't doing enough to escape the position. The referee steps in to end the fight.
Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:37 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Duane Souza!
A relieved looking Duane Souza thanked the fans for their support and gave the usual line about them being amazing. They seemed to believe that he actually meant it.
