Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Phoenix Waters (ranked 3876 p4p, 4741 weight class) and Gideons Spekmanis (ranked 280 p4p, 0 weight class). Well, the cameraman is lingering on a pretty young lady for a bit too long there. Keep your eyes on the prize buddy or you'll miss the fighter intros!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Phoenix Waters!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Gideons Spekmanis!
The judges for this bout are James Ackerman, Richard Clark and Donald Grub.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Spekmanis connects with an inside leg kick.
Spekmanis stuffs the takedown.
Waters will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
Spekmanis fails with an attempt to clinch.

Spekmanis tries to keep at a distance but Waters has taken the fight into the clinch.
Waters cracks Spekmanis with a nice body shot.
Waters is defending well against a takedown attempt.
Spekmanis tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.
Waters will no doubt start fighting again in a minute but for now he's just having a little rest, leaning Spekmanis up against the cage.
Waters lands punches inside but they're not really causing much damage.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Waters is pressed up against the cage. Spekmanis has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Waters down to the mat. Waters avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.
Phoenix Waters has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Gideons Spekmanis.
The fight stays on the outside here - Spekmanis looks like he's thinking about clinching though.

Waters has his takedown stuffed

and Spekmanis counters by moving into the clinch.

Spekmanis successfully pulls guard.
Waters engaging in some classic timewasting tactics.

Spekmanis had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Waters defends it easily.
Waters is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
Waters trying to control but Spekmanis is working from the bottom.

Waters slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.
Waters would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.
The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up.
Waters controlling from the top position.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
The fight stays on the outside here - Spekmanis looks like he's thinking about clinching though.

Waters throws a combination. Spekmanis tries to block but a couple of punches get through.
Waters takes a kick to the side of the head.
Spekmanis tries to clinch up but Waters circles away and keeps his distance.
Spekmanis moves in looking to clinch but Waters pushes him off.
Waters is looking to counter with a body kick.
Waters displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Spekmanis.
Waters seemed to be looking to counter by closing the distance.

Waters moves into the clinch.
Waters with an attempt at a knee that misses.

Waters drags the fight down to the ground.
Waters on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Waters tries to get out of the position.

Spekmanis trying to control the position from guard on top but Waters is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Waters has his hands on Spekmanis's head, controlling the position.
Waters knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Spekmanis on the ground.
Waters looking to control.
Waters really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
Waters looking to hit a scissor sweep but Spekmanis is one step ahead there.
Waters throwing some rather feeble looking strikes off his back.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Spekmanis drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Spekmanis jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.

Waters darts in looking for a takedown but Spekmanis gets double underhooks and turns Waters into the cage.
Waters looking to throw knees to the head but Spekmanis is blocking nicely.
The pace really dropping off here, momentarily.

Waters breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.

Waters clinches up with Spekmanis and pushes him back against the cage.
Waters drops down for a takedown but doesn't get it.
A frustrated look appears on Waters's face as he tries to break the clinch.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
An uppercut on the inside fails to land for Spekmanis.

Spekmanis breaks from the clinch.
Spekmanis is looking to clinch.

Waters fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Phoenix Waters. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Waters gets the takedown into side control.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Spekmanis stops Waters from passing to mount.
Spekmanis can't do much from the bottom here.
Spekmanis sneaks a leg under to get back to half guard.
Spekmanis landing strikes from the bottom.
Spekmanis is pressing down on Waters's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it.
Waters has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.

Spekmanis is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Spekmanis bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Waters's guard.

Waters preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage.
Spekmanis is looking to work some ground and pound but Waters has wrist control.
Spekmanis wants to control from the top but Waters keeps moving.
Waters is looking to sweep but instead, Spekmanis has passed into half guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Spekmanis seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Waters does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Spekmanis is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.
Waters throws a strike from the bottom that misses.
Spekmanis is trying to control the action in half guard but Waters is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.
Spekmanis prevents Waters from improving his position.
The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.
Spekmanis uses his free foot to push down on Waters's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Waters.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Waters is squirming around, avoiding Spekmanis's attempts to control the action.
Waters is in a horrible position here. Spekmanis smacks him with another shot as he tries to escape the position.
Spekmanis avoids the attempt from Waters to control.
Spekmanis working away from the top, dropping strikes.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Spekmanis working to secure an arm triangle but it's not happening for him just yet.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Gideons Spekmanis showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's time! Back to the action! This is the final round!

Spekmanis looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Waters is fending him off so far but Spekmanis persists. Nope, Waters circles away and we're back to standing.

Spekmanis tries to sprawl but Waters drives through with a takedown into half guard.

Spekmanis manages to escape and get back to his feet!

Waters feints and as Spekmanis raises his hands in defense, Waters changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
Waters not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Spekmanis bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Waters's guard.

Waters is trying to control the position but Spekmanis postures up.
Waters is doing well to control the posture of his opponent and prevent any damage.

Waters is working an open guard so Spekmanis takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Waters shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Spekmanis sprawls well. Spekmanis wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Waters gets slowly back to his feet.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Waters is defended easily by Spekmanis.
Nice takedown defense from Waters. No joy for Spekmanis on that attempt.

Waters gets in close and instigates a clinch.
Still in the clinch, Waters scores with a nice short uppercut.
Spekmanis tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.
Phoenix Waters has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Gideons Spekmanis.
Spekmanis drops to a knee looking for a takedown but Waters gets the underhooks and prevents it.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Spekmanis has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Waters is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.

Waters jumps into guard, dragging Spekmanis to the mat.
Spekmanis trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.
Spekmanis is stalling in the full guard.
Waters wants to hit a sweep here but Spekmanis passes into full mount! Oh no, disaster for Waters there!
Spekmanis sitting in mount, just looking to control for the moment.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Waters wants to control but Spekmanis is having none of it.
Waters is trying to escape the mount.
Waters is working hard here to advance position.
Spekmanis can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Waters is looking to escape.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Spekmanis lands with some vicious ground and pound - can Waters hang on?
Spekmanis controlling the position easily from mount.
Spekmanis misses with a head shot.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Waters is in all sorts of trouble here.

And that's the end of the fight!
Gideons Spekmanis comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Spekmanis has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
