Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Marshall Hoover (ranked 3809 p4p, 3823 weight class) and Joe Johnson (ranked 396 p4p, 400 weight class). Chooooooooon! I think Hoover might be my favorite fighter, now he's come out to The Young Punx - Ready For The Fight. We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Marshall Hoover! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Joe Johnson! The judges for this bout are John Mangel, Ron Honeybunn and Topper Green.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Johnson showing good head movement there, avoiding the strikes from Hoover.
Johnson shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Hoover but Hoover pushes him off and we're back to square one. Johnson scores with a jab to the body. Johnson tries for a takedown but Hoover sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily. Hoover takes a swing at Johnson's ribcage but misses. Hoover misses with a body shot.
Johnson raises up his leg as if looking to counter with a high kick. Hoover digs a good hook to Johnson's body.
Hoover fakes a head shot and lands one to the body. Hoover misses with a double jab.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Hoover misses with a kick to the body.
Johnson misses with a takedown attempt - Hoover sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses. Marshall Hoover has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Joe Johnson. Johnson is looking to take this fight into the clinch.

Hoover closes the distance and clinches. Hoover's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does. Hoover circles away from the clinch attempt.

Hoover connects with a lovely right hand, straight down the pipe. Marshall Hoover seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Johnson blocks a head kick by Hoover.

And Johnson tries to counter it with a takedown but Hoover pushes his down on his head and steps out. Left hook, right uppercut from Hoover. Hoover punishes Johnson's body with a nice straight punch. Johnson changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Hoover looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better. Hoover tries to wriggle free to get back to his feet but he's given up his back! Oops. Johnson biding his time, controlling Hoover.

Hoover is trying to get back to his feet. He's worked up on to his knees and now he's on his feet with his head on the canvas, trying to shake Johnson off. It looks like it's working - Johnson slides off, much to his dismay, and we're back to standing! Hoover displaying calm under pressure there. Hoover misses with a head kick.
The fight stays on the outside here - Hoover looks like he's thinking about clinching though. Johnson swats away the attempt to clinch by Hoover. Johnson avoids the head kick by Hoover.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Johnson tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Hoover paws at him with a jab and circles away. A nice leg kick lands there from Hoover. Johnson is looking to clinch. Hoover closes the distance and clinches. Johnson is working on a leg, looking for a takedown but Hoover is defending well. Hoover breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat. Hoover is looking to take this fight into the clinch. Johnson rushes Hoover and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch. Hoover's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does. Johnson moves into range and throws a lovely three punch combination. Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Hoover just misses with a punch to the body.
Hoover scores with a hook to the body. Johnson takes a step back and tries to catch his breath. And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.
Marshall Hoover dominated that round. The cut man is working on Joe Johnson's cut. The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. Johnson avoids the head kick by Hoover.

Hoover thuds his shin into the meat of Johnson's side. Hoover jabs Johnson right on the nose. Johnson blinks but takes it well.
That's one minute gone in the round. Johnson takes a shot to the eye socket. That's gotta hurt. Johnson is breathing heavily. Nice shot lands for Hoover. Marshall Hoover is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs. A head kick misses from Hoover. Marshall Hoover is winning the standup battle so far. Hoover is looking to clinch. Hoover throws out a powerful jab. The fight moves into the clinch position. Hoover manages to break the clinch.
Johnson tries to clinch up but Hoover circles away and keeps his distance. Johnson fails with a takedown attempt. Johnson misses with a body kick. Hoover throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.

Hoover is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Johnson can do to turn this around?

Hoover dives in looking to finish as Johnson flails his arms in a desperate attempt to block Hoover's strikes! Hoover is raining down hammerfists and the ref stops it! Johnson's desperate flailing just didn't constitute intelligent defence. Some people will probably question the ref's decision but Johnson was definitely hurt and the ref saved him from taking unnecessary punishment. A fighter's safety is paramount in this sport.
