PBP Commentary |
Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Chan Sung Jung (ranked 3253 p4p, 4908 weight class) and Elias Gracie (ranked 262 p4p, 330 weight class). Jung kept the crowd waiting but all that was forgotten when his ring entrance music started. The incomparable musical genius that is Zombie. The key to victory for Chan Sung Jung has got to be keeping the fight on the feet.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway! We've got one fighter who appears to only be looking to counter and the other not looking particularly aggressive either, so we could be in for a dull fight. Jung throws a big shot that misses. A low kick from Jung is predictable there and Gracie counters with a shoot takedown. Jung fights it but they end up in guard. Gracie is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there. Gracie is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two. Gracie stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Jung swivels though and keeps the full guard. Gracie advances position into side control! We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Gracie tries to cartwheel into mount but he doesn't manage it. Gracie thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.
That's one minute gone in the round. Jung is looking to reverse the position. Jung might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground. Gracie goes for an armbar here - this could be all over! But no, Jung has escaped beautifully and is now on top in side control! Oh, that's unlucky for Gracie but great work by Jung. Jung tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though. Gracie is trying to get back to half guard. He's pushing on Jung's leg. He's managed it. Nice work. Jung wants to lay and pray for a moment but Gracie keeps working. Jung wants to pass to mount but Gracie is defending the position. Jung trying to control from half guard but Gracie is working away. Jung passes to full mount! Gracie has given up his back here. Will Jung look for the submission or keep pounding away?
That's two minutes gone in the round. Gracie manages to reverse the position and now he's in Jung's guard. Nice work there by Gracie.
Gracie drops back for a leg here. A bit of a high risk move... He's looking for a kneebar by the looks of things. Now both of them are looking for submissions. Gracie seems to have locked his on tight now - Jung screams in pain and taps out furiously! It certainly was a high risk move but it's paid off for Gracie, as he picks up the win!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:25 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kneebar). Elias Gracie! A less than humble Elias Gracie misjudged his post fight interview somewhat and came across a little too arrogant whilst trying to hype up his own abilities.
