Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
4 - 8 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Hank Trill! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
2 - 1 - 1, fighting out of Montreal, Neil Jules! The judges for this bout are Dillan Fox, Steve Smith and Gregory Folan.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Trill gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Jules to score an easy takedown into full guard. Jules not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up. Jules trying to control but Trill is working from the bottom. Jules got a little sloppy there for a moment and Trill has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Jules has managed to get both his arms back between Trill's legs - danger averted. Jules wants to stand but Trill is controlling his posture from full guard. Trill looking to hit a scissor sweep but Jules is one step ahead there. Jules lands a couple of digs. Trill is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive. Jules is pushing down on Trill's leg trying to pass to half guard. Trill is fighting to maintain full guard but Jules has managed to sneak the leg through. Trill is trying to get back to full guard.
That's one minute gone in the round. Jules is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Trill manages to get to full guard.
Jules should think about turning a few of those tyres round his middle into muscle if he wants people to take him seriously as an athlete. Jules looking to sit in guard and control but Trill gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top. Jules bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Trill's guard. Both fighters really going for it on the ground here! Jules tries to free his leg and advance position but Trill is retaining full guard. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Trill looking for a guillotine here but Jules defends easily.
Trill wants to sweep but no luck.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Jules stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Trill swivels though and keeps the full guard. Jules gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent. Jules tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Trill swivels and escapes. Jules throws a right high kick that is partially blocked by Trill. Jules misses with a takedown attempt - Trill sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses. Trill lands a lovely overhand right. Trill scores with a jab to the jaw of his opponent. Trill tries to clinch up. Jules decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard. Trill is staying active underneath Jules, who seems content to just control the action from this position. Trill is looking to sinch up a gullotine here but Jules pulls his head out easily. Trill is breathing heavily. Jules wants to lay and pray for a moment but Trill keeps working. Jules passes the guard and advances to mount!
That's three minutes gone in the round. Jules working for a guillotine from mount but Trill is in no mood to give up. Trill trying desperately to get to his feet.
Jules stands up from mount. Strange move. Jules shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Trill defends it nicely. Hank Trill has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Neil Jules. Jules shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Trill as he jumps to the side. Trill shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in full mount! That's better than Trill was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure! Jules is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Jules can't escape the position.
Jules tries to lock up and control but Trill gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away. Jules is controlling an arm, preventing Trill from taking his back. Although keeping him in mount is no better to be honest.
Jules tries to hold on but Trill postures up. Jules can't escape the position.
Jules slips a leg in and gets back to half guard. Trill trying to control from half guard but Jules is working away. Jules keeps control of the position for the meantime. The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end. Jules gets full guard. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Neil Jules dominated that round. That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.
Jules scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice. Jules is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Trill has escaped the position, nice work there. Jules working away. Trill holds on tight, trying to prevent any damage. Jules trying to control the action but Trill is working from the bottom. Jules tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though. Trill tries to improve position but can't. Jules wants to control but Trill is keeping him busy. Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
That's one minute gone in the round. Jules is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Trill is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.
It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground. Jules shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Trill but Trill pushes him off and we're back to square one. Trill tries to clinch there but Jules circles away.
Trill looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Jules is fending him off so far but Trill persists. Nope, Jules circles away and we're back to standing. Jules shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Trill napping and manages to drive through into side control! Trill wants to control but Jules postures up. Jules taking a breather here. Jules is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Trill knows the correct defense though, so he's OK. Trill is trying to improve his position.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Trill is moving his hips around well on the bottom and has managed to get back to half guard. Jules is working for a kimura but Trill is defending it quite comfortably.
Jules is taking a breather. Trill says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something. Jules is looking for a kimura but Trill is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Jules to get the leverage. Trill has hold of a guillotine but he's not going to be able to crank on it really with only half guard, so it's no trouble for Jules. Oh but Trill has got full guard now! Oh boy! This one could be over very soon! Jules goes limp - he's gone! Trill jumps up and celebrates with the crowd - fantastic submission finish!
