PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Edwin Baker (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Frank Esposito (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Baker comes to the ring accompanied by Mortal Kombat- Afu Ra. Frank Esposito is the more experienced fighter, so let's see if that makes a difference tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Edwin Baker!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Frank Esposito!
The judges for this bout are Nard Betker, Patrick Alders and Paul Aken.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Esposito stumbles momentarily as he takes a strong leg kick from Baker.
Esposito throws a body kick but he wasn't in range.
Esposito waving his hands out infront of him, looking to distract Baker.
Esposito walks forward and throws out a flicking leg kick. Baker checks it nicely though, as he moves to the side.
A chopping leg kick lands by Baker.
Esposito throws a leg kick but Baker sees it coming and moves out of range.
Esposito throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Baker sees it coming and avoids it easily.
Esposito uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Baker.
Baker throws a lazy body kick
and Esposito finishes the little exchange by landing a big kick to the body.
Esposito throws a sloppy head kick and Baker moves out of range easily.
Baker defending well as Esposito loads up on a big left hand.
Esposito throws a looping overhand right but Baker ducks down to avoid it.
Baker looks to land a left hand but Esposito moved out of range nicely.
Esposito fakes a jab and throws a low kick but Baker checks it well.
Esposito throws a head kick that misses.
Esposito misses with a leg kick
and Baker counters with a thumping low kick.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Baker shoots in looking for a takedown. Esposito tries to sprawl out of it but Baker keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the ropes. Esposito manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Esposito takes a hook to the side of the head. I wonder if that's got his ears ringing.
Baker throws a leg kick that is checked
and Esposito counters with a good, hard body kick but Baker shrugs it off.
Frank Esposito is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Baker checks a low kick. Bone on bone - not my idea of a good time.
Esposito attempts a leg kick but it's missed by a good margin.
Esposito throws a body kick, spinning off balance

and Baker counters with a nice double leg into guard.
Esposito is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Baker wants to control from the top but Esposito keeps moving.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Baker passes easily into side control. Nice work.
Baker tries to advance to mount but Esposito instead regains half guard.
Baker wants to control but Esposito is keeping him busy.
Baker is stalling here. Esposito is in no mood to hang around though. He's locked up a kimura from the bottom! Baker seems to be keeping calm but he's forced to roll out of the hold and Esposito has ended up in side control on the top. Nice work.
Esposito trying to control the position but Baker is working away.

Esposito has had enough of the ground for now and decides to stand.
Esposito tries to check the leg kick but that clearly hurt him.
Esposito looks to land a body kick but Baker moved away.
Baker thumps Esposito with a low kick.

and Baker counters with a leg kick.
A nice leg kick lands there from Baker.
Esposito misses with a wild body shot.
Esposito thows a leg kick but Baker checks it
and Baker counters with a body kick that brings a smile to the face of both fighters.
An inside leg kick lands from Baker.
Esposito misses with an uppercut. Baker saw that one coming.

Esposito misses the shot to the body.
Esposito pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Baker misses with a low kick.
Baker looking to take his opponent's legs away with the low kicks.
Frank Esposito seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Esposito lands with a thumping leg kick.
Baker moves out of range of the body kick.
Baker tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Baker gets cracked there but stands up to it.
Esposito throws a lazy body kick

and Baker counters with a single leg into guard. Esposito didn't expect that.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Esposito keeping moving, preventing Baker from controlling successfully.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Baker tries to free his leg and advance position but Esposito is retaining full guard.
Baker wants to control from the top but Esposito keeps moving.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Edwin Baker dominated that round.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!


Like a baseball bat into the meat of his leg there - nice leg kick by Baker.
Esposito jabbing away but nothing is landing.
Baker misses with the combination.
Esposito avoids a low kick by using good footwork.
Edwin Baker is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Esposito throws a leg kick but Baker checks it.
Esposito misses with a body kick.
Esposito thumps Baker with a low kick.
Esposito throws a body punch but Baker moves out of range.
Baker lands a nice leg kick that just misses Esposito's sensitive parts.
Baker shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Esposito defends it nicely.

Baker looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.

Esposito is not content to let Baker control the position.

The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Baker is trying to work for a kimura. He's got his hands clasped together - this could be trouble! No, Esposito has managed to free his arm - good work.
Baker wants to lay and pray for a moment but Esposito keeps working.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Esposito is looking to improve his position.
Baker tries to pass to full mount but Esposito defends it.
Esposito is refusing to be controlled, as Baker sits in half guard.
Baker is really struggling to control Esposito but he's trying to hold on to the position.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Esposito tries to score with an inside leg kick but telegraphs it and Baker is able to avoid easily.

and Baker counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.
Baker looking to pass the half guard. Not this time.
The fighters are tangled up in the ropes here. We might need a restart if the fighters can't break free themselves.

Baker is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.
Baker working to pass to mount. He's got his hand pressing down on Esposito's thigh. Esposito counters though and makes it back to full guard.
Baker wants to control from the top but Esposito keeps moving.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Baker is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Baker looks for the body kick but Esposito saw that one coming.
Esposito thuds a mid kick into his opponent's body. That will wear on Baker if he has to take too many more of those.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Esposito lands with a head kick! That's gotta hurt.
Esposito does a little shimmy and throws a leg kick. The leg kick missed by a considerable margin though, making him look a little bit silly for doing the shimmy.
Baker throws a leg kick but Esposito sees it coming and moves out of range.
Baker blocks a leg kick.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close second round but Frank Esposito will probably get the nod - 10:9.
That's time! Back to the action! This is the final round!


Esposito tries to land a body kick

and Baker counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.
Baker is looking to stall here but Esposito recovers full guard.
Baker wants to control from the top but Esposito keeps moving.
Esposito pulls Baker in to control the position.
The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring.
Esposito is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Baker pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Esposito is keeping the position for now.
Esposito is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Baker stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Esposito swivels though and keeps the full guard.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.

Baker decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
Esposito is looking to control Baker's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Esposito avoid being mounted?
Baker is trying to control. Esposito wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.
Esposito is trying to maintain the position but Baker is very close to passing his half guard.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Baker wants to advance to full mount but Esposito doesn't think that's going to happen and regains full guard instead.
Esposito working a defensive guard here.
Bakeris looking to pass into half guard but Esposito pushes him away with his feet and jumps on top - now Esposito is in guard.
A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as Baker holds on and takes a little breather.

Baker is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Esposito defends well.
Esposito controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.

Esposito avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Esposito stands up from Baker's guard - Esposito perhaps looking for a knockout.
Esposito cracks the inside of Baker's front leg.
Baker moves out of range of the body kick.
Baker throws a lazy head kick
and Esposito counters with a straight right hand.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Esposito looks to land a body kick but Baker moved away.
Esposito cracks Baker with a good shot that sees him stumbling back into the ropes.


Baker is rocked!
Esposito connects with a stiff jab that staggers Baker - oh and he follows up with a huge uppercut that knocks him out cold! Man, that was brutal!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:20 of round 3, we have a winner by way of KO (Punches). Frank Esposito!
