PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Scooby Doo (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Alex Stone (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Scooby Doo!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Alex Stone!
The judges for this bout are Eliza Hachem, Damien Edna and Summer Carpenter.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Doo shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Stone manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.
Doo scores with a decent looking elbow strike.
Stone keeping moving, preventing Doo from controlling successfully.

Stone working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Doo doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Doo manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Doo content to strike from guard, landing some decent shots.
Doo pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Stone is keeping the position for now.
Doo is working hard here to advance position.
Doo has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.

Doo got a little sloppy there for a moment and Stone has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Doo has managed to get both his arms back between Stone's legs - danger averted.

Doo drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Doo jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

Doo works a leg free and moves into half guard.
Stone is looking for a sweep. Doo is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Doo is just content to waste time from the top position. Stone takes advantage of the situation and regains full guard.

Doo decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.
Stone fails with the takedown

and Doo counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Stone's guard now.

Doo drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Stone manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Doo has Stone in his guard.

Doo is looking for a triangle but Stone pushes his legs off easily.
Stone trying to stand up but can't free himself from Doo's guard.

Doo working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Stone doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Stone manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Doo can't keep his opponent in guard - Stone advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.
Stone is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Stone in particular looking to stall.
Stone is trying to control. Doo wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.

Stone wants to pass the guard but Doo is defending well.
Doo trying to control here but he's found himself mounted! Oh no!

That's four minutes gone in the round.
A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Stone trying to control but Doo is having none of it.
Doo might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
Doo is desperately trying to get back to half guard.
Stone trying to control but Doo is having none of it.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Scooby Doo dominated that round.
Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin!


Stone with a poor takedown

and Doo counters with a nice double leg into side control. Stone won't be happy with that.
Doo passes to full mount! That's big trouble for Stone!
Stone tries to get back to half guard but can't.
Doo fakes a shot to the body and cracks his opponent in the head. Nice ground and pound there!

Doo looks like he's working for a submission but he's not found anything just yet.
Doo with some aggressive grappling here, looking for the finish.
Stone wants to hold on but Doo pushes him away.
Doo lands a couple of nice shots there from mount.
Doo controlling the position easily from mount.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Doo's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.

Stone tries to hold on but Doo pushes him away.
Doo landing shots from mount.
Doo wants to control the pace but Stone is squirming around nicely.
Doo avoids the attempt from Stone to control.

Doo gets to his feet and calls his opponent to stand. Here come the fireworks!

Stone gets caught flat footed, as Doo shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.
Doo tries to free his leg and advance position but Stone is retaining full guard.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Stone keeping moving, preventing Doo from controlling successfully.
Doo tries to stand but Stone is controlling from the bottom.
Stone wants to sweep but no luck.

Stone has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Doo can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Stone is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Stone tries to clinch but Doo is having none of it.
Doo circles away from the clinch attempt.
Stone scores with a jab to the jaw of his opponent.

Doo shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Doo showed some decent athleticism there.

Doo is trying for a kimura here. Stone looks like he's in a lot of pain... and he's tapping out! Doo wins by kimura!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:48 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). Scooby Doo!
