The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Ashburn rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Zanchi moves out of range and avoids them all easily.

Zanchi postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Ashburn is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Zanchi, into his guard.

Zanchi is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Ashburn is aware though and is defending well.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Ashburn decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.

and Zanchi counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.

Ashburn is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.

Ashburn controls Zanchi momentarily but Zanchi frees himself.

Zanchi drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Zanchi is working an open guard so Ashburn takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.
No luck with that takedown attempt from Zanchi.
Ashburn lands with an uppercut that bounces Zanchi off the cage and back into rage.
Ashburn lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Zanchi circles away quickly and effectively.
Ashburn uses good footwork to get in and out and land a nice right hand before Zanchi has time to react.

Ashburn lands with a big right hook that stumbles Zanchi - he's out on his feet here! Ashburn follows up with another monster hook that separates Zanchi from consciousness! Zanchi falls, almost in slow motion to the canvas! Ashburn stands and admires his work as the crowd go wild.
