Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
1 - 1 - 1, fighting out of Montreal, Relic Rock! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Brick Flag! The judges for this bout are Steve Smith, Trevor Gratis and Dillan Fox.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Rock fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt. Rock misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Flag.
Rock slaps away a takedown attempt from Flag, before circling back to the center of the mat. Rock scores with a hook. Rock fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt. Flag bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control. Rock tries to escape but Flag is in control. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Flag creates some space and throws a big elbow, but Rock sees it coming and moves his head just enough to avoid the strike. Flag with the ground and pound but Rock regains half guard under the barage of strikes. Rock keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound. Flag looks to land a strike but Rock avoids it nicely and regains full guard. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Flag with a flurry of punches that miss. Flag throwing strikes but missing. Flag throwing strikes from guard but Rock blocks nicely.
That's one minute gone in the round.
Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up. Flag ducks under a wild hook from Rock. Rock lands with a nice combination. Flag backs away looking to recover. Flag shoots in looking for a takedown. Rock tries to sprawl out of it but Flag keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Rock manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing. The fighters circling - Rock throws out the jab but it was never going to land. Rock displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Flag. Relic Rock has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Brick Flag. Flag looks gassed! Nice sprawl there from Rock as Flag shoots in. Flag will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts. Rock closes the distance and pushes Flag back into the cage. Rock gets the body lock takedown. After a quick scramble, Flag regains guard.
Flag utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound. We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Flag can do anything to dispel that myth. Rock postures up in Flag's guard and throws a big left but Flag blocks it.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Flag throws his legs up looking for a submission but Rock uses it to pass to side control.
Rock connects with a decent looking elbow from side control that caused Flag some visible discomfort.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Rock looks up at the clock and then as Flag takes his cue and looks up at the clock too, Rock smacks him right in the chops with a big elbow! How rude!
Rock has hold of Flag's arm. He's looking for a kimura. Flag seems comfortable defending it but Rock has shifted his position slighty and is cranking on the arm! Flag is real pain and he's forced to tap out! Flag is disgusted with himself for not defending it better but Rock couldn't care less - he's delighted!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:48 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). Relic Rock!
