Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
3 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Mason Sutherland! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Kenny Purcell! The judges for this bout are Stewart Dunkirk, Robert Twigg and Wesley Smith.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Purcell misses with a body kick. Sutherland shoots in but no luck this time. Mason Sutherland seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. A nice combination there by Purcell.
It looks like Mason Sutherland has been cut. Sutherland tries to keep at a distance but Purcell has taken the fight into the clinch. Purcell has double underhooks and is working for a body lock takedown. He's got it. The fighters land in half guard but Sutherland regains guard immediately. Purcell is looking to stand up but Sutherland won't let him. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Sutherland looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Sutherland keeping moving, preventing Purcell from controlling successfully. Sutherland is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
Sutherland isolates an arm and boxes in a triangle. Purcell stacks Sutherland on his neck as he steps over and passes to the side. He's now in a much more dominant position where he can look to do some serious damage. Nice move by Purcell! Purcell is looking to take a break and control but Sutherland is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
That's one minute gone in the round. Sutherland looks to move to half guard but instead Purcell has passed into mount! Damn! Sutherland is trying to escape the mount.

That's two minutes gone in the round. There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action. Purcell tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position. Purcell lands a couple of nice shots there from mount.

Sutherland is squirming around, avoiding Purcell's attempts to control the action. Purcell landing punches. Purcell working for a submission but Sutherland is keeping him at bay. Purcell landing strikes from the mount and Sutherland is in trouble! Purcell content just to control the position here.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Let's hope that Purcell has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight. Purcell really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Sutherland. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out. Purcell takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.

Sutherland sneaks a leg back under and regains half guard and is working straight away to try and get back to guard. He hasn't managed just yet though. Purcell trying to control the pace.
Despite being in the dominant position, Kenny Purcell just isn't active enough and the referee decides to stand the fighters back up. Purcell gets a clinch. Sutherland is trying to work for a single leg takedown but Purcell pulls him back up using the underhooks. Purcell breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat. The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end. A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Sutherland. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Mason Sutherland. That's going to take a lot out of him. Sutherland is breathing heavily. Sutherland has his head slapped from side to side by a 3 punch combination. That must have hurt him. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Kenny Purcell dominated that round. The cut man is working on Mason Sutherland's cut. OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.
No luck with that takedown attempt from Sutherland. Mason Sutherland is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things. Purcell drives through and clinches with Sutherland against the cage.

Sutherland tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Purcell just stands there and leans against the cage. Purcell manages to break the clinch.
Purcell closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Sutherland to the mat! Sutherland manages to get full guard. Purcell slips effortlessly into side control - very nice. Sutherland manages to land a sweep and he's now on top! Lovely Jiu Jitsu! Purcell keeping control of the position. Sutherland is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Purcell doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Sutherland. Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Sutherland wants to stand but Purcell has a closed guard, so he can't escape. Purcell wants to sweep here but Sutherland controlling him for the moment.
That's two minutes gone in the round. The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so. Purcell is trying to control the position but Sutherland postures up. We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Purcell can do anything to dispel that myth. Purcell seems keen to control Sutherland's posture. Purcell tries to land a sweep but no joy. Purcell pushes Sutherland off and scrambles back to his feet.
Purcell lands a jab-cross combination. Purcell shoots in and bounces Sutherland off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Purcell stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Sutherland swivels though and keeps the full guard. Purcell is nestled in close to Sutherland, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure. Both fighters are breathing heavily. Purcell throws a right hand that Sutherland ducks under and follows up with a left that Sutherland also avoids with ease. Purcell drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Purcell tries to move to mount but Sutherland blocks the move with his legs. Sutherland tries to get back to half guard but can't.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Sutherland tries to escape but Purcell is in control. Purcell trying to control the position but Sutherland is working away. Purcell stands up and beckons Sutherland to his feet. Purcell shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat. Sutherland tries to land a sweep but no joy. Purcell controlling from the top position. Purcell avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Sutherland is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Purcell defends well. Purcell stands and steps away. Sutherland gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game. Sutherland misses with a takedown attempt and Purcell counters with a shoot takedown. Sutherland fights it but they end up in guard. Purcell pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Sutherland is keeping the position for now.

Purcell works his way back into a safe position though. Sutherland wants to sweep here but Purcell controlling him for the moment. Kenny Purcell is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach. Sutherland has an active guard here but Purcell has managed to pass into half guard.
Mason Sutherland has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here! Kenny Purcell has got the better of the ground game so far. Purcell passes to full mount! And that's the end of the fight! Kenny Purcell comfortably won the final round on my scorecard. Well Purcell has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today.
