Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
1 - 0 - 1, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Nelson McAdams! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Pablo Ja! The judges for this bout are Matheus Silva, Alexandre Firmino and Thiago Cunha.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! McAdams shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Ja pinned against the cage. Ja gets the underhooks and manages to circle away. McAdams looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily. McAdams fails with a takedown attempt. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Nelson McAdams. That's going to take a lot out of him. McAdams fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt. McAdams shoots in but Ja avoids the takedown attempt easily. Ja is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two. Ja clinches up with McAdams and pushes him back against the cage. Ja is working McAdams over against the cage. Ja has McAdams pushed against the cage. Ja gets double underhooks to prevent a takedown attempt from McAdams.
Ja stays in close to his opponent and throws a right hand to the body.
That's one minute gone in the round. Ja makes some space for himself and lands an uppercut. Ja working some nice short punches in the clinch. Ja is stalling here. The referee will be looking to step in if he doesn't pick up the pace. McAdams takes a shot to the head. McAdams jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Ja walks away with a smile on his face. McAdams gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head. Ja lands a jab to McAdams's midsection. Ja closes the distance and clinches. Ja pushes McAdams back against the cage and lands a hook to the side of the head. Ja presses McAdams against the cage and delivers a mid-strength body shot. Ja lands with a short shot to the head. Ja lands punches inside but they're not really causing much damage. Ja lands a body punch. McAdams is breathing heavily. Ja is trying to work out of this bad position, with his back against the cage.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Ja scores with a nice hook to the head. Ja escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Ja closes the distance and lands a one-two. Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Ja swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Ja rushes McAdams with punches - McAdams moves straight backwards instead of circling and gets clipped by the second strike... and the third... and the fourth! Oh, McAdams goes down! Ja follows up with more strikes and the ref steps in to end the bout!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:24 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Pablo Ja!
