PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Zaq Wu Sang (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Funaki Fujiwara (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). The crowd seem to be enjoying Fujiwara's choice of entrance music: T.N.T. by Tonedeff. Funaki Fujiwara has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Zaq Wu Sang!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 7 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Funaki Fujiwara!
The judges for this bout are John Mangel, Winston Howard and Skip Squint.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Fujiwara decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
Wu Sang is trying to control but can't.
Fujiwara looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Wu Sang with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.
Fujiwara tries to stand but can't do so whilst Wu Sang controls his leg.
Wu Sang misses with some strikes from the bottom.
Fujiwara is trying to get back to his feet now but his leg is trapped.
Fujiwara looking to pass the half guard. Not this time.
Fujiwara wants to stand but Wu Sang has hold of a leg and an arm, so he's trapped for now.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Fujiwara is pressing down on Wu Sang's thigh, looking to free his foot. Wu Sang is holding on for now.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
Wu Sang misses with a wild body shot.
The crowd cheers as Wu Sang lands an impressive looking overhand right. Fujiwara doesn't seem phased though.


It looks like Funaki Fujiwara has been cut.
Wu Sang tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Fujiwara swivels and escapes.
Wu Sang drops his hands and takes a jab to the jaw for his troubles.
Some wild striking there from Fujiwara.
Wu Sang throws a wild combination but nothing lands.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Wu Sang decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
Wu Sang works his foot free and advances to mount.
Wu Sang trying to control but he's not successful this time.
Fujiwara's corner are shouting for him to stand up but that's bad cornering - how is he meant to stand up when he's mounted? He should be looking to improve his position on the ground before trying to stand back up.
Fujiwara looks gassed!
Wu Sang is landing with some decent strikes but Fujiwara is trying to advance his position so the referee is letting the fight continue.

Wu Sang has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Fujiwara takes a big shot to the head but keeps on trying to improve his position.

Fujiwara is trying to get to the cage to help him get back to his feet.

Wu Sang looking to control but Fujiwara is working nicely, looking to advance position himself.
Fujiwara is working to get back to half guard.
Wu Sang trying to control but he's not successful this time.
Fujiwara is trying to escape but when you're mounted that's not too easy.
Wu Sang looking to control and managing it successfully.
Fujiwara tries to buck Wu Sang off but Wu Sang takes his back!
Fujiwara trying to get back to his feet but Wu Sang is in full control for now.
Wu Sang lands punches and elbows.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Wu Sang working for a choke but Fujiwara is defending well.
I would not like to be Fujiwara right now.
Fujiwara staying busy and making it hard for Wu Sang to control.
Wu Sang is landing with strikes from the back.

Wu Sang is looking for the choke from the back position but Fujiwara is controlling his hands well.
Wu Sang scores with punches to the body.
Fujiwara wants to get back to his feet.
Fujiwara grimaces as he takes a shot to the body.

Wu Sang has his hand under the chin of his opponent looking for the choke. He's nearly got it! This one could be all over! But no, Fujiwara has freed his hand and lives to survive another… well, another couple of seconds at least!

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Wu Sang controls the position.
Wu Sang lands a punch that was close to the back of the head but the ref thinks it's OK.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Wu Sang is hanging on to Fujiwara's back as he tries to escape.

Wu Sang is staying calm and holding on to the back position, whilst working on a rear naked choke. Fujiwara is defending well though. Wu Sang let's go of the attempt for now.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Zaq Wu Sang dominated that round.
The cut man is working on Funaki Fujiwara's cut.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.



Fujiwara feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
Fujiwara stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Wu Sang swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Fujiwara stands up and waves to Wu Sang to follow him.

Wu Sang closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Fujiwara did well to prevent Wu Sang getting side control.
Zaq Wu Sang overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Fujiwara looks like he's trying to stand up.
Wu Sang takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.
Wu Sang frees up his trapped foot and advances to mount.

Wu Sang working for a guillotine from mount but Fujiwara is in no mood to give up.
Fujiwara is really trying hard to get back to his feet.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Wu Sang moves to the back position.

Fujiwara is looking to escape but he's done so without protecting himself and Wu Sang manages to counter with a nice rear naked choke! Fujiwara is in trouble and he's forced to tap!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:38 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (RNC). Zaq Wu Sang!
